Altay & Turkish Main Battle Tank Programs

According to the information I received at the fair, the first delivery will be made in the second half of 2025. I could not get any information about how many months it will take to deliver the 100 units to be delivered with the Korean Power Group.

we hear same story for 10 years but we never see an ALTAY

each story is different brother, you have to pay attention to the details. This is talking about deliveries for Altay powered by South Korean powerpack not for testing, but for service. Finish line getting close.

The German powerpack got embargoed b/c of Operation Olive Branch, if it didn't embargo, this would have happened in 2018. Years were wasted trying to get Germany to reconsider, as at that time the South Korean powerpack was there, but the transmission was still not ready and it would have required a redesign of the tank. But eventually thats what happened, Germany didn't change, so Turkey had to wait for the South Korean transmission to get fixed, in the meantime they worked on making more of the tank local and upgrading it with a Turkish Active Protection system and other things, like a domestic engine and transmission. Eventually the tank was redesigned and agreement was signed with Korea to replace Germany as the engine supplier. That happened last year with two tanks with Korean powerpacks build and delivered for testing, now that testing is about to finish and the real serial production is about to being, with deliveries expected 2025. In the meantime the domestic engine and transmission was delivered for testing for the first time.

Those are the next milestones, the initial batch production with the Korean powerpack, the testing prototypes delivered with the domestic powerpack and then finally hopefully if everything goes well, the production of a fully indigenous Altay with a domestic engine and transmission. If you want some good news, the engine and transmission developed by Turkey seems to be progressing faster than expected.

Once pre-production with the Korean engine becomes possible, mass production of the ALTAY Tank will begin in 2025

YASAR GULER ( Minister of National Defense )
Currently, we have over 3.000 Tanks and by the end of 2025, we will start to receive the regular ALTAY tank in mass production.

We have 3000 tanks? LOL We have 3000 tank but only on paper!

In reality, we have fewer than 600 combat-capable tanks, and 400 of them need to be modernized urgently.

Why don't you folks put Altay Turret on Leo 2 chassis?

They did. As a prototype proposed.

This design was chosen instead. An upgrade of the Turkish LeopardA4s

Wow. Then turkiye should have transformed every leo 2 chassis to altay! As you are unable to solve engine and transmission issues.

Vay. O zaman Türkiye'nin her leo 2 şasesini altay'a dönüştürmesi gerekirdi! Motor ve şanzıman sorunlarını çözemediğiniz için.
In order for us to install the Altay turret on all our Leo's, the Altay needs to be in mass production. In order for mass production to truly begin, we must have solved the issue of domestic engines and domestic transmissions.

As for the engine and transmission issue, that file will be closed permanently in 2-3 years . From that moment on, we will be able to install as many Altay towers as we want on our Leo's.
