Bangladesh Air Force

When there's some smoke there might be some fire. The BAF, which has never got a chance to flourish, needs to cooperate with the PAF for getting their tasks done short. The PAF's capabilities and experiences are like the BAF's treasure buried deep underneath.....

Cooperation with Türkiye and Pakistan just seems natural.

Not much noise, but this is a significant development. Unthinkable a year ago.

Mustafizur Rahman is a mig 29 pilot, bro can fly hard... seen his air demonstration on victory day parade a few years ago

Hearing that pakistan air force is gonna train bangladeshi pilots.... sounds like j10c/ j35 is the way Bangladesh will go

That would be amazing combo.
I cannot understand why BAF have been locked in the twin-engine fighter het mindset. Aircrafts like F-16 and J-10 would be enourmous for BAF until arrival of 5th gen fighters and modern UAVs.

Btw, BD have already recieved Bayraktar TB2 and i recall a romour about orders on Akinci too. BD will be one of the best constumers of Turkish defence sector in the coming decades.

Probably should hold off on any new big ticket purchases.

We need to assess what’s needed for a vision for the future before you allocate resources.

This needs to include both tactical needs and geostrategic considerations.
Doctrine is overrated.
What is wrong with going ahead and spending 3-4 billion dollars on 16 twin engine fighters?
We need to fly something newer at the parades.
It helps flag officers with negligible flying hours justify their existence.

The reasoning is that since most airfileds have been abandoned or out of service in Bangladesh and that the airforce has limited number of places to land... a twin engine jet gives more flexibility in diversionary landing should an engine failure occur... but the logic is flawed IMO when majority of bangladeshi jets are single engined and the fact that it's easier for such platforms to land in civilian infrastructure like highways...

BD is making huge moves in UAV field though... would be nice to see BD collab with turkey to manufacture loyal wingmans as force multiplier.

I think the preference for twin engine in the past came from the requirement to patrol the huge maritime zone of Bangladesh. Redundancy is useful for those circumstances. However with longer range drones now available to patrol maritime zone, we could re-strategize. For Bangladesh, the ideal scenario is to have a small but potent fleet of relatively lower maintenance single engine fighters like Gripen, J-10 or JF 17 for the next 20 years or so, until we are capable of getting hands on 5th Gen.

Bangladesh needs a comprehensive strategy and see what platforms make sense in this context.

Seems like there was a lot of rot for decades.

3 billion spent on an outdated flawed tender to field hanger queens does not seem smart.

But also understand Uncle Sam probably has ideas for Bangladesh.

Too early to say anything.

But overall BD needs to cultivate ties with Pakistan and Türkiye.

The main issue will be how lesser states are affected by the coming US/China rivalry.

In the meantime instead of buying planes, maybe send some strapping young
Bangladeshi bucks to Pakistan and Türkiye to learn the basics.

And eventually phase out the personnel and culture of the last few decades.

I.e. Rebuild the BAF from ground up.

In all seriousness, the BAF organisation needs a complete overhaul before any major investments are made otherwise it will be money flushed down the drain, not to mention hamstringing the other forces.

Replace AFD with a Joint Chief's command and depute army and navy officers (serving/retired) to BAF to re-define their:

1. war doctrine,

2. Order of Battle,

3. culture, and

4. training.

Phase 2 would be bringing in friendly countries to bolster technical capabilities (network integration across the board including SAMs, 4++/5th generation fighter war strategies, UAV-driven combat, etc.) and finally Phase 3 can be major procurement.

If we do not do things in order, this rudderless organisation would continue to falter.
