China’s previous J-11, was an improvement on Soviet Su-27 technology! Beijing was not allowed to export it or sell that fighter jet to anyone without Moscow approval!
This is the J-15. a new different aircraft Will China be selling this one?
True, a mix of two would be more practicalPersonally, I don't think J-31 will replace J-15. J-15 is a big bird at 22 meters long. In terms of fuel, range, weapons load, it cannot be matched by any other carrier fighter jet.

No, the J-15 is de facto an illegal copy of the Su-33 / Su-27K and surely won#t be exported. Even more, who should ever need a carrier based fighter like the J-15?
The problem is not the J-15. I am sure J-15 is pretty capable. The issue is the carrier. So far China , Russia & India are still using STOBAR carrier. In order for Chinese navy to utilize full potentials of J-15 they need CATOBAR carrier?
1%? wrong numberNo need. China don't spend a lot on military. Only like 1% of GDP. STOBAR is good enough. The future of warfare is drones. That's what China heavily invests in.
I don't usually comment here anymore these days, but what a beauty!!!Finally we got confirmation, that the modernised J-15B is in PLAN Naval Aviation service. This in fact is not surprising since within the recent months we already got some hints and blurry images suggesting it to be, but to finally see in in numbers is a pleasant surprise.

Please correct me, but isn't the F-18 primarily a carrier based air craft as well? Yet it is flown by Foreign Air Forces with all it's carrier gear intact.Even more, who should ever need a carrier based fighter like the J-15?

Surprisingly Switzerland doesn't even have a navy, but their F18's have arrestor hooks.
So anyone looking for a twin heavy, free from western sanctions could be a customer?
Yes, your first comment is correct, but even if China „illegally“ cloned the Su-27K/Su-33 as the J-15 and the Su-30MKK as the J-16, they always obliged the originally contracted „no export“ clause. And as such, China will never sell the J-15
I don't think there is such a thing as "China obligated" It is more out of courtesy. It is not illegal copy more like reverse engineering. Because China is not happy with Russian avionics, radar, and weapons,Yes, your first comment is correct, but even if China „illegally“ cloned the Su-27K/Su-33 as the J-15 and the Su-30MKK as the J-16, they always obliged the originally contracted „no export“ clause.
