More like 100 of each in the long-term. You don't get only 40 of a single fighter in a country like Pakistan

My point is to restrict J-10CE imports in favour of J-35s.

The J-10CE was only a counter to Rafale and so 40 would suffice.

By the time India gets more Rafales the much superior J-35 would be operating in PAF.

It seems to have far less bumps and bulges on the body compared to the F-35. Needless to say sure the Chinese leanred a lot of what they were able to extract secretly about the F-35.

If the thrust to weight ratio is the same as the F-35 (and on paper it is claimed to be) and the data fusion is as good, this will be a beast. Pretty unchallangeable in South Asia, and I would go so far as to say even when the AMCA comes along.....

PAF would also had lots of time to learn and employ tactics in using the J35 for different scenarios. Added they will have integrated tje plane with their network and make it a very formidable attack platform. Maybe I am overstepping my mark, but with the J35 and sensor fusion across Pak assets, who on the region, even the mideast baring Israel will have something more advance and operational?

The first thing I can say for sure is that there is certainly no problem with the production supply of the WS21. However, Pakistan has purchased only one. This can be a lot of speculation.

Conjecture one:
Explore the possibility of using WS21 for JF17.
But, Pakistan does not have the capability to do so. Such work should be done at CAC. And, it is not possible to use only one engine for such exploratory work. So, we can rule out this conjecture.

Speculation two:
Training of WS21 maintenance team.
This is a very likely use. We know that the export version of J35 is using WS21 engine.PAF has openly expressed its intention to buy J31/J35. So it is possible to buy a WS21 in advance to train a team of engine maintenance engineers. This is also a side confirmation that PAF will get J35(WS21).

The above is my personal speculation, please analyze with caution.

It the latter - PAF follows this process for all aircraft since the F-16 in that support equipment and trainers arrive earlier to get familiar with aircraft maintenance - for e.g. with J-10C PAF started full ToT of engine core before aircraft landed in country - rumor has it even Russians were involved - so the complete engine can be overhauled and serviced in Pakistan.

Essentially, that route over the mountains for bringing in spares or systems from China is slowly eliminated as it is for the JF-17 by working with China on local support.
