Range differs between export and domestic; some state for the export version is 20 km. I’m trying to see how the motors differ.

Also, could the outer weapons bays on the J-20 be able to carry a WVR missile of a larger diameter and therefore a longer range?

Misleading, as a lot of them begun production WAY before the J-20 was even finished development, AND also the fact that a huge chunk are flying in foreign forces who have their own domestic lines of either assembly and/or partial production which cuts down time and costs.

Meanwhile, China is doing this alone. A better example would have been the F-22, which has less than 200 examples built, but was on the road to 500 in less than a decade, until politics killed the production of the plane and led to the rise of the F-35 program.

The J-20's development and production speed is actually mindblowingly impressive, only beaten by the speed at which the Turks seem to be developing the KAAN at a break neck speed.

Whether the F-35 is being built solely by US or not doesn't matter because that wasn't the claim, the claim he made no US fighter is being produce at the scale of J-20 which is FALSE!

Btw it is easy to mass produce a stealth fighter like the J-20 when it is a one trick pony (air to air) lacking the complex tech and capability of the F-35... emphasis on its tech.

It's actually unclear how big the F-35 or the J-20's production is.

With China rapidly increasing its capacity, it could very well be true. Having said that, we know the Chinese have more J-20s than anyone was expecting at this point, while the J-35 continues to face production issues that have slowed down further inductions.

1000 over a far longer period than the J-20 is really not all that impressive, no matter how far and wide the production capacity seems to be. In anything, it's actually kind of bad.

These pods are not mysterious but just the same or slightly modified camera pods we‘ve already seen on the J-10S when the J-20 made its maiden flight, on a JF-17 and also a J-11BS, when the J-35 flew first … but what‘s more interesting, the J-20S is a so far not yet known prototype powered by WS-15 engines.
