@Michael based on images, videos seen, whats your assessment on how far the design is developed. They are likely leveraging experience from J20, even J35. Although first look of this, if we assumed the CAC prototype is selected we are still looking at what a decade to refine design, for matured systems, engines and infrastructure in place and then another 5 to 10 years for mass production?

The news came so suddenly today, it took everyone by surprise. I didn't have time to think about it.
I can try to do some simple analysis, but there are definitely some logic holes.

1, December 26th. The timing of this is very strategic.
The U.S. has just released its 2025 defense budget. It's up 2% year-over-year. Adjusting for U.S. inflation, it is down 1% in real terms. According to that budget report, the proportion of personnel expense costs was increased. After deducting the real purchasing power factor due to price increases. 2025 U.S. military equipment procurement and research and development costs actually fell by a very large amount. This suggests that the U.S. military is seriously short of money.
According to the relevant news, on December 27, the United States will study the Air Force's future related costs and plans.
This move by China on December 26th will seriously irritate the USAF. Simply put, China is trying to force the US into this arms race.
We can expand our associations to our heart's content as to what will happen next.

2. With China's current R&D speed, I don't think it will take too long to perfect “it”. I think the design will be perfected in about 5 years. But I'm not sure if it will go into mass production. I have reservations about that.
Two fighters were revealed today. In fact, information about them was exposed in Chinese social media a long time ago. But people didn't believe the information that came out at the time. It was only after they officially appeared today that many people started to review the previous information.

There is some other news. But I can't provide any evidence. So, that's it.

Yes but its the fast catch-up that will have Americans in sweats.

F-22 flew in 1997 and J-20 did not fly till 2010. Gap of 13 years has now been shrunk down to just 4.

Where do you see 3rd engine? It's clearly have 2 engines

They were already having sleepless nights because of J-35.

You’re assuming China has access to the same technology the US has. An F-22/F-35 is not equal to a J-20.

This is Chinas version of a 6th gen fighter, if that’s their intention. The USAF version will be much more advanced.

Sorry I just corrected my first flight of J-20 to 2010 but you probably noticed.

J-20 is far superior even with its WS-10C current engine than F-35 which is not really a 5th generation fighter.

Upgraded F-22 may just have an advantage over J-20 though but no-one knows for sure.

Now it is not helping the US to keep downplaying Chinese tech as it means when the punch lands, it is going to hurt more than if you were prepared for it.

The US Air Force has a completely different assessment of the J-20.

This is not an unbiased impartial assessment.

He is not likely to be honest and say the J-20 is a threat is he?

Anyway, how on earth would the US know the true capabilities of the J-20 as its RCS would be hidden when it goes out on patrol and the current version has not yet had the in production WS-15 engine installed.
