Chinese 6th Generation Aircraft News & Discussions

Himalayan mission ;)

Btw, considering the dark color and dorsal intake, do you think a good name for this aircraft would be the “Orca”?

A sea creature doesn't suit a fighter plane. I would choose something like Tengshe (soaring snake) or Tianshe (heavenly snake).

The upcoming year is the year of the snake which comes after the year of the dragon (J-20) and happens to be sixth year in the cycle (sixth gen). But I do have a bias.

US can cut back on F-35s and now the need for NGAD is even more pressing.

Their current NGAD design is pretty much lightweight compared to CAC's 6th gen, only comparable to SAC's 6th gen.

They need to redesign everything in order to make the new NGAD being comparable to the mighty J-36.

Maybe they have realized that to redesign the NGAD will be much more time consuming and costly compared to the upgrade F-22 raptor.

Also, the F-35 program is their golden goose, and a lot of their allies have already placed order for the new batches of F-35. So you cannot simply cancel it without any substitution plan.

NGAD just went through a mission redesign to vastly decrease its performance requirements.

They haven't said a word about NGAD since the reveal of J-36 & J-50.

So the upgrade raptor is their only response.

Maybe they do believe that the upgrade F-22 integrated with advanced AI & loyal wingmen could put up a good fight against the J-36 & J-50.

They gotta make up their damn mind lol

The 2023 NGAD looks like around the size of J-50 and being smaller than J-36, and the 2024 NGAD looks really tiny.
What's the point of ngad if they are gonna downsize it to f-35 lol china is going for both manned and unmanned fighters for CAC and SAC.

F-22 production line is down for good. It would be easier to make a fighter from scratch than fire it up.

Lockheed Martin has clearly suggested that the F-22 gonna be reinstated & upgraded in the future "to dominate the sky".

If the tailless NGAD program is still ongoing, then they are surely going to be the primary contractor, then followed by Boeing.

Since the F-22 product line was originally shut down by Obama, then the incoming Trump admin is surely going to do something opposite.

If the tailless NGAD has become a downsized unmanned drone, then it is going to become a loyal wingman of the upgrade F-22 raptor.

people talking about an NGAD flying in 2019 are just coping because it isn't going to be the thing that flies if NGAD survives.

I can see that being the case. They started NGAD as a replacement for the F-22, but only recently got around to recognizing the need for a distributed data framework enabling wingmen drones.
