A high-level defence delegation from Bangladesh visited Pakistan on Wednesday and met with Pakistan Air Force (PAF) Chief, Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmad Babar Sidhu.

The delegation, led by Lieutenant General SM Qamarul Hassan, Principal Staff Officer, Armed Forces Division, Bangladesh, expressed a keen interest in Pakistan’s advanced military equipment, particularly the JF-17 Thunder fighter jets.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the meeting took place at the Air Headquarters in Islamabad, where both sides discussed ways to strengthen military ties and enhance cooperation between their air forces.

Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmad reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to deepening its military partnership with Bangladesh, with a focus on joint training programs and expanding collaborative opportunities.

Lieutenant General Hassan praised the Pakistan Air Force’s modern initiatives, its state-of-the-art technology, and locally developed technical frameworks. He specifically showed interest in the production of the JF-17 Thunder aircraft, along with other modern military hardware.

The meeting underscored the commitment of both nations to enhance military cooperation and strengthen bilateral relations.

Myanmar use the Block 1 or 2 JF17's but Bangladesh can for the Block 3.
It does not matter even if they use block 3 which they do not, point is that they should harmonize as much as possible strategic parts of army with Pakistan which would bring benefits for both countries.
JF-17 should be just start for further enhancements of their air force.

JF-17 does not fit BAF doctrine of extremely high performance fighters in small numbers to deter IAF.

Myanmar does not even need an airforce to be dealt with as that is more much quicker and cheaper IADS requirement, and so there is no place for JF-17 in BAF and anyway unless BD has a democratic government in place no fighter jet purchase is possible.

Consider just a squadron’s worth? Just to set fire to bhakts who thought that they could play BD like a fiddle when they had Hasina running the show. I personally am really rooting for this to happen…not really from the sales point of view…but more so to grab my popcorn and just enjoy the seething comments of bhakts.

How many air fighters would be optimum for BAF, if the answer for that question is around 100 then there is certainly place for couple of squadrons of JF-17 as workhorse of whole combat force.

By the time that BAF has a government in place and China is "ready" to sell fighter planes to BD after it is sure that BD will not go against Chinese security interests(both with India and US) then J-35A would be ready for export.

JF-17 simply makes no logic for BD and why would BAF want to go to the time and massive expense of setting up the infrastructure to house and operate just 16 planes?

I would say 80-100 between now and 2040.

Like I have said many times before that should be split equally between China(J-35A) in the late 2020s to mid-2030s and KAAN(mid 2030s to 2040).

BAF has no no need for a "work horse" as it is not a 300 fighter air force like Pakistan or Turkey.

You need less advanced platforms for day to day operations, training, air policing, selection of pilots, basically as selection filter for more complex airplanes. No air force is consisted only from most advanced platforms, actually it is opposite in reality, so JF-17 is not bad choice for BAF as some sort of nucleus for further expanding capabilities in distant future.

I’m just joking of course…
…as I pointed out in my post…it’s the troll value I’m mainly interested in. If BD ever purchased JF17…there wouldn’t be enough burnol in the world…to soothe the burns of our mutual neighbor.

I think this is BAF/BD trolling India.

The big advantage of purchasing JF-17 Block 3 would be to see PAF and BAF operating the same aircraft and training with each other, which could cause more heartburn in Modi-land.

Seriously as @Ali_Baba said earlier, it would be fantastic to see PAF and BAF pilots training with each other.

J-35A and KAAN are both coming to PAF and BAF in time I am sure and so there will be a lot of mutual defence co-operation between Pakistan and BD. India will just have to suck it up.
