RAB as a force should be dismantled. When you have police and SWAT within police, what purpose does RAB serve? In the past they were used for extrajudicial killings and arrests. If they need them for specialized ops like anti drug or anti terror, why not enhance the existing anti terror anti drug units within police.

In Bangladesh no force is free from corruption, so that can't be used as an excuse to justify RAB's existence. Continue to maintain a force like this with a history of extrajudicial killing and also sanctioned by US, is not a wise choice.

Bangladesh's ousted PM Hasina held babies in secret jails

TRT World – January 21, 2025

Several children were among hundreds of people held in secret detention centres in Bangladesh, a commission investigating enforced disappearances carried out during the tenure of now-deposed premier Sheikh Hasina has revealed.

At least half a dozen children spent months in black site jails with their mothers, the Commission of Inquiry on Enforced Disappearances said in its preliminary report on Tuesday, saying babies were even used as leverage during interrogations, including denying them milk.

Dhaka has issued arrest warrants including on charges of crimes against humanity for 77-year-old Hasina, who fled to old ally India in August 2024 after she was toppled by a student-led revolution.

Hasina's government was accused of widespread human rights abuses, including the extrajudicial killing of hundreds of political opponents and the unlawful abduction and disappearance of hundreds more.

The commission said it had detailed "multiple verified cases where women disappeared along with their children", including as recently as 2023.

It highlighted a case where a pregnant woman - held along with her two young children - was beaten in a detention centre.

"This was not an isolated case," the report stated.

'Never returned'

The commission said one witness showed investigators the room in the detention site she had been held in as a child with her mother, run by the much-feared paramilitary Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).

"Her mother never returned", the report read.

In another incident, a couple and their baby were detained, with the child starved of mother's milk "as a form of psychological torture" to pressure the father.

When in power, Hasina's government denied committing enforced disappearances, claiming some of those reported missing had drowned in the Mediterranean while trying to reach Europe.

The commission says around 200 Bangladeshis abducted by security forces are still missing.

Committee member Sazzad Hossain said that while some victims could not pinpoint the exact officers who tortured them, their testimonies would be used to identify the forces involved.

"In such cases, we will recommend holding the commander accountable," Hossain said.

"The effects on the victims' families have been multifaceted, ranging from severe psychological trauma to legal and financial challenges", the report added.

And therein lies the problem. Despite following the American agenda during 1/11 that ultimately resulted in the execution of their top leaders and incarceration and torture of thousands of their activists and supporters during the Hasina regime the Jamaat appears again to be following the same American agenda and they have been doing this consistently since 1971.

As with 1/11 there is no guarantee that the Americans can hold things together and prevent another Indian backlash. It was Americans failure to restrain the Indians that led to the Jamaat being almost wiped out during the Hasina regime and which was effectively a betrayal and the Americans did nothing for more than a decade to protest what the Indians were doing. It is also certainly possible that the Americans wanted the old Jamaat leadership out of the way as they were a political liability due to their role in 1971. I have also heard that the Americans sought to prevent military action during the BDR mutiny so as not to destabilize the newly installed Awami League government in 2009.

It is for this reason that the Jamaat are again gambling that the Americans will somehow be able to install them in power and undermine the BNP with the introduction of new entities such as the AB Party and some others and a new 'Kings Party' that the BNP are disgusted with the Jamaat.

Some of the recent statements of Mahmudur Rahman, Tajul Islam, Asif Nazrul, Md. Asaduzzaman indicate that 1/11 is again in full swing.
Aren't the jamaat anti American in their speeches. Regarding my experiences with parties like JI, Hizb Tahrir, Muslim Brotherhood, they all claim to be something other than what they are, they hide their real identity and political vision which actually aligns with the west. The main reason I don't agree with them is they unsettle Muslim countries, cause disunity and rebellions.

I think you are fairly accurate in your assessment about these Islamist groups and parties ... The Jamaat is only superficially anti-American in their speeches while following closely and clandestinely the American agenda in the region.

They appear to have abandoned their attempt to proclaim anything and left it to the Interim Government to do the job. The students were pressured by the Interim Government and the BNP to not go ahead with the proclamation as it was believed that they would demand the revocation of the Constitution amongst other things.

It is clear that there is a fracture developing within the Interim Government and with the political parties and also with the student movement. It is clear that the Interim Government and the students movement is hopelessly compromised.

One indication that the IG is resorting to methods and tactics employed by the Awami League regime is the preliminary report into the Secretariat fire which has been blamed on an electrical short circuit but which no one in Bangladesh believes. There was also the mysterious escape from the country by the AL Secretary General Obaidul Quader after hiding out in the country for 3 months.

I had warned at the outset that the Interim Government would be able to achieve nothing as many of the Advisors are highly dubious as well as a number of appointees such as the Attorney General, Chief Justice and Special Prosecutor. There is clear manipulation of the media and the judiciary and people cannot expect justice or reform the Interim Government.
It feels like the Bangladesh establishment/military is slowly trying to take control. Over the years the students/youth could be sidelined. Hopefully we will witness a new party formed, with students, youth, clean politicians, professionals joining the party.

The difference between an Islamic political party and islamist is the islamist use islam as a political weapon, they use quran as a weapon, the normal Islamic parties just want Islamic welfare state but don't use Islam as a weapon. It's difficult to explain unless you join these parties. Pakistan has Islamist parties aswell, as well as Arab nations where they originate from, 90% of them follow western agenda, they caused rebellions in Syria Libya Algeria and failed attempts in Tunisia and Egypt. In Pakistan they have been trying for generations to cause a division in the army so civil war starts. These parties claim they are anti west, spread hate against America/Europe but when in power hug the same nations but this time make up excuses and claim it's necessary but when the government or army does it they claim they are agents.

Is their any plan for a new party in Bangladesh, a party with new vision, new leadership, youth, students, clean politicians, professionals. It will be great for Bangladesh, a third choice between BNP and AL. For some reason this Yunus person seems to be pro Usa.

Bangladesh Muslim League should be revived, it's original Bangladeshi party, which slowly expanded to all over British India.

Another new party was created

Two senior officers from India's foreign intelligence agency, the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), arrived in Dhaka on November 6, 2024.
@ihcdhaka arranged this visit. The purpose was to restore the estranged good relations with Bangladesh's NSI and DGFI agencies.Upon verification, it was found that on November 6, 2024, two senior RAW officers, Advisor Ashok Kumar Sinha and Director Konjok Tashi Khampa, arrived in Dhaka on Air India flight AI 227. Indian embassy officials were present at the airport to receive them. Notably, these RAW officers are primarily officers of the Indian Police Service (IPS). Ashok was deputed to RAW in 2007 and Konjok in 2013.Previously, Ashok Kumar Sinha visited Bangladesh twice (on September 6, 2023, and November 10, 2023) for only one day each time. The main reason for the visit of these two officers was to re-establish intelligence relations with the interim government. However, unlike the reception they were accustomed to during the @albd1971 regime, this time the reception was quite the opposite. While previously Indian embassy officials disregarded protocol, this time they faced a completely different situation. NSI (National Security Intelligence) and DGFI (Directorate General of Forces Intelligence) clearly informed the RAW officers that there was no opportunity to establish any special relations beyond routine interactions. They were also advised to deactivate RAW's cover and deep-cover operators in Bangladesh. Disappointed by not receiving the expected response from the Bangladesh side, the officers' frustration was evident in their unnecessary rude behavior with the staff at the hotel they were staying in (Hotel Amari, Gulshan 2).The two RAW officers left Dhaka on November 8, 2024.Note: It is mentioned online publications that the responsibility of senior officers deputed to RAW is assigned in the Cabinet Secretariat in Delhi through central deputation.

Their bad behavior at a 5-star hotel at a prime location in Dhaka didn't help.

@Afif How the heck did Sami bhai get this information? Guy's too good.

I wager these individuals may partly explain the current information war against Bangladesh. It appears too perfectly coordinated.
