Chinese Should Be the Official Language of the World

from my experience the key of speaking a language is practice in the country.
I learned english years after years with little result. one day the company sent me to Chicago. it was hard. but after 1 week I could speak to the americans.
I can understand a bit but hardly speak mandarin. I think I can speak chinese after 3 months if I spend a time in China.

my spouse learned french at school in Germany, same poor level of proficiency. but then she went to a university in France she speaks french fluently after she was forced to speak french in front of french students.

I would say first education is important. The national education that will teach English to the population

At this time, Indonesian even started learning English since their first year in elementary school, where in the old days it was started from junior high school (Soeharto era).

Not only English, but also our national language is now wide spread

TV, Satellite TV, and now Youtube will both spread our national language and English to the folks in Indonesia

Young Indonesians are now talking more like Jakartan people due to the music, politics, entertainment are dominated by Jakartan people. I think in greater circle, English is also the same. The way Indonesian speak will be more likely close to American for example, since it is what they hear on Youtube as we dont use the language frequently here when it comes to speaking

yes, of course education is the basic for everything. but what’s the use of english if you don’t practice?
I speak basic french, but not good enough, actually terrible
.I consider to go to France for a while. to get fluent in french.
I think it’s best for countries as Indonesia it’s best if you send students to China.

Well, my niece all of them can speak English fluently since they are kids. I dont follow current system, but in my time English is more studied base on grammar, and vocabulary. The English class is more like learning other knowledge like Pyshics and others which is not good when it comes to learn new language where active approach should be implemented so it should be more talking and writing

There are of course folks who studied in China, but mostly in my time people with money prefer sending their kids to US, Australia, and Britain for university level education.

Dont know with Today, but I my selves like self study and nowadays this is the perfect time to do it with many Youtube channel, PDF format books, and AI

it does not work that way either military conquest or supporting education and culture to the world nations who allows it and you can hope some day it will be spoken as world language, also your science has to be best in the world to force others to learn chinese by logical motives.

Incidentally, does any Chinese member here @Beijingwalker or @ety know of widely adapted Chinese typewriter before electronic or digital typewriter came out? Like mechanical typewriters? In english speaking countries typewriters became really popular really fast and everyone including people at home used to have one for preparing letters and manuscripts.

Before computer based word processing how was manuscript writing (like a PhD thesis or similar) done in China?

Does anyone have a first hand experience on that?

I think there were mechanical Chinese typewriters commonly used before electronic ones, they were a bit more complicated than English ones though. I personally havent seen one first hand.

Chinese Should Be the Official Language of the World

If our esteemed member @Beijingwalker says so, then why not??

But really saddened by the limitations of imagination. Why just the world, Chinese should be the official language of the universe.. and if someone refuses, should face dire consequences from PLA

Yes I understand Mandarin language is the most spoken language in the world because of China's large population, but how can Mandarin be the language of the world, lol?

There are many Arabic and English speakers as well.

Chinese writing system is different from the common phonetic system used in other languages. Chinese characters are created based on pictogram, ideogram and phonetic sounds. The characters slowly evolved over 4 thousands years, they served Chinese well and will continue to be used, Chinese are not going to create a phonetic writing system for their language.
Unnecessary complicated thing.

It's ok to respect as historic national thing.

But it's a inusable thing for daily life, especially if someone wants to use as international language like this thread title suggest.

A international language should be the most easy to learn for the most of planet Earth people, not a unnecessary complicated thing.

A mix of Lojban, Esperanto, Gregg writing, and so on.

Hey, as it stands now, Chinese is the most succinct, condensed and efficient language system. Chinese will not give up the current system and create a new language just to be similar to English, French or other phonetic system, otherwise it will cease to be Chinese in meaningful ways. Chinese language is going to stay with its Chinese characteristics. In my opinion, no particular language should be made the world official one. The UN already has six official languages. The opinion of whether a language is easy can be quite subjective too depending on one's background. Besides, there is already the pinyin spelling (based on phonetic sounds) to help foreigners learn Chinese.

Hey, at least the Chinese haven't claimed yet that they created the universe, invented nuke bombs, spaceships and internet long time ago.

How can you say that it's efficient when it doesnt even exist internet domain names in Chinese characters.

It's not efficient for daily current life.

But it must be respected as a historic national thing, that's all. It's Ok due to historic reasons, not due to efficient use reasons,.

And yes, a language can be easy to learn for EVERYBODY just following simple rules without exceptions, and creating words proportionally from world major languages representation.

You are simply wrong, there is already exist a defacto world language: English, because it's necessary to do intl commerce, but it could be, it should be, a better man designed international language.

Chinese is efficient for Chinese to use everyday, it is in the most compact form of any languages. The internet is dominated by English language now. Yes, English is the international commerce language now, but it is not the "official" language of the world.

I have a Russian friend that speaks both English and Russian as native learned Chinese years ago, he told me that he found the spoken Chinese language is one of the easier ones, but he said learn to write Chinese characters can be said of somewhere difficult.

Cantonese is the way things was spoken, not the way things were written, I can speak in Cantonese with a passage of Simplified Chinese word, Cantonese vs Mandarin is not the same as Traditional Chinese vs Simplified Chinese.

The way I was taught is the "Traditional Chinese Character" came from older branding style script rather than the written style script. Simplified Script are shorten form of Chinese character so it will take less time and save ink when they were being printed with printing press. However, branding and most title was written with traditional script. In the old days, people would have know both Traditional and Simplified Chinese.

(My old memory of ASL Level Chinese Language and Culture Classes)

To understand what learning Chinese means....

一 (this is a one stroke character)
刀 (this is a two stroke charecter)
口 (this is three stroke)
水 (this is five stroke)

Now why 刀 is two and 口 is three? Historical reasons.
And why 刀 is two but 水 is five? Again, if you write 水 properly you will have to lift the brush five times.... What is proper? Historically defined.

And yes to learn Chinese properly, you need to internalize this information. For 3000 symbols.
It's not because it's historical reason, it is how the word being write. It takes one stroke to write this

One stroke for this

That's why the word knife in Chinese is 2 strokes. In Chinese, you don't go look up a word in order, it's like a library catalogue with stroke, you find your radical first, and then look up the words according to how many stroke
