F-16 of Pakistan Air Force

10 crashes out of which 6 have made it out.
I indirectly knew Sqn.Ldr. Zafar Ahsan (shaheed). Crashed during a night sortie (1989?)
He was the elder brother of a university colleague of mine.

The list of deceased in Vipers include :

Zafar Ahsan (1989)
Nasir Kamran (1994, his crash was seen clearly on a HUD tape from another F-16)
Saud Ghulam Nabi (2009)
Noman Akram (2020)

All first rate pilots, Zafar Ahsan for example was the course top graduate for No. 7 F-16 OCC. But the profession proved they were all human, and as told by many Viper jocks in PAF almost all of those crashes were preventable.

Can you elaborate on the 89 crash? Was it the disorientation case?

As the saying amongst pilots goes that there are bold pilots and there are old pilots but there are no bold old pilots.

There are bold old pilots (I know of one at home). The saying is that there are no old bold pilots.

Cheers

One of these incidents had one PAKISTANi F-16 accidentally shooting down another.

Pilot is ejected and is still flying to this day.

We got some of the wreckage at home and the recovered ejection seat.

Yes it was disorientation. The following link has more info :

Their conversation was almost exactly copied in Shahper drama except that in the drama the mission was flown during the day. Check it out.
Yeah watched that boring drama some time ago. Watched it mostly for some of the aerials, my old man was in some of the shots for the F-7P and F-16s.
