They have been controlled for all living memory by a small group of civil servants who have long walled themselves off from the electorate. I used to work for a Defence subcontractor and I had friends who worked for the big Defence contractors (GA, LM, etc.) and you wouldn't believe the stories I could tell you about the cushy workloads. We had people who literally used to go to the movies during the 'lunch hour', LOL. Beach parties, weekly catered lunches from proper restaurants (not cold ass sandwiches), etc.

Working for a Defence contractor is like swimming in money and it's not going to change under DOGE. Not a chance!

It will be interesting to see if DOGE does the usual sleight of hand where employees are fired and replaced by more expensive contractors or the work is subcontracted out.

This is a standard accounting trick to show lower fixed costs (employees) and shift it to one-off project expenses (contractors). Defence contractors and labor hire companies are usually big buddies with politicians (of any party) and they benefit when this sleight of hand occurs.

Remember Elon Musk was complaining to Congress about this back in 2014 sayng the Government was being ridiculously gouged by ULA (owned by LM and Boeing) a price of $380M per defense related launch.

After SpaceX sued and won ULA has pretty much lost their launch business.
