BBC has its motives - every news agency has contacts that push information, trades for different asks. There are likely external factors for the BBC to run this vs lets say a Ukrainian or Sudanese story and so on.

However, it does not absolve the general “All izz well” drama put up by the state because they feel that their already cracking legitimacy and writ will further erode.

This problem has festered for far too long, and been ingrained too deep in the society that it is now a part of the thought process of even children over there.
