Bangladesh Socio-Political Crisis 2024 and onwards

Bangladesh’s uprising is not too dissimilar to what we see in USA.

Did people vote for Trump? Yes.

Did he have outside help? Hell yes!

And just as US people are fast souring on Trump - same is the case with the “students”.

Both Trump and Bangladeshi students offered the impossible - and both will fail bigly.

Unfortunately, Bangladeshis are partisan and intolerable of plurality - which reflects in their leaders.

Unfortunately, what you are saying about BD is true for our share of Bengal-West Bengal as well. Politics in WB is as violent and polarised as it seems to be in BD. WB is lucky to be a part of a bigger nation called India.

Why it should be so is something that all of us Bengalis (irrespective of faith and national flag) should ponder about. Since I am a (hindu) Bengali hopefully I will be exonerated of any charge of racism.

Regards

It seems that the AL is now adopting the Indian narrative on pretty much everything.

You made some good points. For everyone else including the likes of @SoulSpokesman

In terms of relations with India, Bangladesh has no choice but to maintain positive relations with our western neighbour which now has the 5th biggest economy in the world and which we can do a lot of business with to help us in or mutual goals of poverty alleviation and economic development.

Bangladesh has no choice as if Bd depends on Indian aid- only a self defeated loser think like this. Awami propaganda to keep Bd down.

Post July revolution, such narrative has been dump in gutter just like Awami disposed League.

Because Awamis are khandani Bharti ghulam. That's why.

I do agree that there should be open debate on Bangladesh and that no one should be impugned for expressing a view. I have been rebuked several times since August 2024 for expressing certain views but which months later many others now share.

Just because you said so that doesn't mean it was correct. If Nazi can't function in Germany as a party then Awami disposed League has done worst and deserved worst treatment.

I am little disappointed as some of you are trying to make space for Awami cult. There should be zero tolerance for Awami disposed gaddar League.

Sorry if already posted. But I feel everyone should know. Not opening a thread as it will become a troll

It’s fair enough to highlight this incident - but does it have to be accompanied by “borderline” poster depicting a child?

Very inappropriate.

Who is a “cult and harmful to Bd” will be decided by Bangladeshis via an election.

It shall not be decided on PDF.

PDF people have no mandate to speak for the people - that’s the job of democratically elected representatives.

Each PDF poster speaks for themselves and no one else.

So, you folks only remember about election and people when out of power but do total 180 opposite when in power.

Election will take place but not unit Awami disposed gaddar league and its supporters neutralized.

Cut out the second rate slogan-ising, dude!

Anyway, the longer this goes on - the more likely BAL may neutralise you.

All it would take is an US instigated coup and BAL is back with Hasina.

Elections is your best bet to stay in power.

US has a history to doing 180 degrees.

Just look in the neighbourhood - who was ousted and who is now back in power.

My views had nothing to do with the Awami League or creating space for them but more regarding the composition of the Interim Government and how it came about and this perspective is now widely held in Bangladesh and often expressed here on PDF.

Given the reliance on garments exports to EU and North America - coupled with reliance on China for weapons and India for food and raw materials - no government of BD can survive by being antagonistic towards them.

Wanting a muscular hawkish government - is wishful thinking.

Such a government will be toppled by US/EU in months.

The big players are letting the IG a free rein provided they are inclusive - but it’s not going to last more than another 18 months.

If the economy tanks - there will be civil war as people fight for scarce resources.

Especially if the IG allocates resources based on political affiliation.

Looks like the current military chief has western backing because he is seen as a bulwark against the radicals in the military.

The problem is that the country is being forced to being antagonistic to certain groups you mentioned but in the process following blindly the dictates of another group whose objectives will eventually lead to civil war in Bangladesh and that is now my worry especially as most of the country doesn't understand any of this and have not given their approval to this policy.

There was another group who called out the composition of the IG right from the get go. The presence of so many Uber liberal ex NGO and pro Western folks was immediately raised as concern by the non-partisan Islamic minded folks in the society - the media is labelling them as "towhidi Janata". They are not aligned with Jamaat as Jamaat's participation in the democratic process is not viewed positively by this group.
