Iranian Navy | News and Discussions

Soleimani catamarans are fast and cheap to produce because they use aluminium. Their machinery it is just diésel engines, that are enough powerful and economic.

But It is not the best seakeeping ship for high seas deployments specially in rough seas. I think IRIN just need bigger hulls warships to fit VLS and gas turbines. That would be the logical step.

It doesn’t matter. IRIN will not buy IRGC vessels. Just like IRIAF doesn’t operate S-129.

But you are correct Iran needs larger hull vessels and they have shown off plenty of concept designs. But either they are not getting proper funding or there might be an issue with securing the proper propulsion systems. Remember when Mowj was first started it used foreign engines.

Can Iran power a destroyer or cruiser class vessel with domestic naval engines?

that radar still look not quite right to me, looks like white sheet

Honestly again I’m not a military guy just like doing this stuff on my free time but yeah I kind of thought it looked a little weird

A shahid Solemani with its radar installed.

I know @Hack-Hook like to claim these didn’t have radar. Some don’t, some do. Imagine it’s a production issue.
first time we saw a radar like this on shahid soleimani class catamaran

looks like this radar is only on one side. does it rotate?

It might just have either one or two side and I suspect it rotates.
Or one side but 360 rotation; enough for the vessel and it armaments.
Or it has just the one side and no rotation with only a forward engagement, but I doubt that

It is the same radar fitted aboard the Sahand. Seems to be a FCR like but also working as a search radar (altough would have a narrow beam). So it is related to Mersad family with Sayyad missile. Other Soleimani class have a shorter range Navab system.

IRI has very good heavy duty diesel engines (naval also). And also makes renowned turbine gas. So yes, IRIN could easily jump to a more ambitious and modern propulsion, CODAG easily... But I think the problem are just two:

One would be the size of the hull (Mowj class it is too small to fit in addition to diésels a turbine coupled a gear), and the other would be the gear. Because a compact naval gear it is bulky and delicate.
Anyway IRI always surprised inside and outside PG. So I am sure they will step this leap anytime soon.

any news about zagros?!

Israeli/Jewish twitter accounts started this rumor 2 nights ago that Zagros SIGINT/ELINT Corvette was targetted by USN. Saudi media picked or deliberately published this rumor.
