This is a bad news for Germany and Japan.

USA is limiting their car.

At the same time, Chinese car is on the rise.

Previously the US had a 2.5% import on cars.

Europe has had a 10% import tariff and Japan has had a 6.5% tariff for years.

Now when we start saying we want higher ones everybody starts screaming as if this is some crazy unfairness. Well now the party is over and to make up for the years of their tariffs we are going to hit them with a big one.

It looks like some don't understand the political basis behind these tariffs. Trump is a business man and also have political experience, he understands the game well enough. Tariffs do not apply on manufacturing inside the US. Hyundai has decided to open a plant in the US due to this factor. More companies might follow suit.

The US will not just sit by and accept trade deficit with so many countries. If it takes to shake the world to address this issue, Trump will do it.

Listen if you think you are going to convince the Chinese here they have had trade barriers set in place to benefit local industry...you aren't going to get anywhere.

However if Trump does the same it is an outrage to them and they suddenly cry about "added expenses".

Remember how Chinese tourists would flock to Europe to buy stuff because it was super expensive at home due to tariffs. Apparently people are forgetting things.

BYD already has a plant in the US and they have been twiddling their thumbs about switching it to making cars instead of buses for the last 10 years.

The Chinese here keep hemming and hawing about Chinese cars not entering the US market when in reality they simply delayed too long.

BYD already has a plant in the US but does not manufacture cars there. BYD is in a good position to manufacture cars in the US because Trump tariffs do not apply to manufacturing in the US. China has an opportunity for negotiations with Trump in this context.

Well what about during Biden's or even Obama's administration.

That BYD plant was opened in 2013...12 years ago!!

If you look the number, it seems unfair for USA.

But you forget that USD is global reserve currency.

Even if USA is not going well, USA GDP will still rise because of the global trade done by other countries.

Remember that USA GDP jump significantly last year, and USA companies valuation reached trillions, despite USA economy is not doing well.

By putting tariff to other countries, means USA want to eat all the cake by themselves, and let others die of starvation.

USA is getting wealthier, but has a problem with unfair wealth distribution to their own people. And USA blames other countries for it.

Unfair wealth distribution is more tied to some jobs paying significantly more than others...not tariffs. The US has seen an explosion of high tech jobs since the 1980's paying quadruple the salary of the typical job...combined with spouses entering the workforce.

The household income levels are highly skewed because of it.

I'm sure countries like China and India also see such skews due to significantly higher paying jobs being suddenly available.
