J-50 is ideal for phasing out the aging Flankers.

J-10 is about 20+ years later than the first 4th gen fighter F-14
J-20 is about 10+ years later than the first 5th gen fighter F-22
J-36/50 is at least 4 year earlier than boeing turned PPT into the first F-47

So the trend is pretty clear.

I would not be surprised by the time the US airforce finally got their batch of F-47, China will already have at least one type of 7th gen fighter.
