Trump threatens 100% tariffs on BRICS nations over US dollar replacement plans

I have not watched that video, but will search for it now.

I'm just curious now, in the coming days, what the Chinese steps will be. President Xi, too, is a strong man figure, and he wouldn't lower himself just like Trump.

Xi will probably play safe, which mean he is just going to watch and match what Trump did one to one. US have a 1 : 3 trade disadvantage, which mean US will need to tariff 3 times the incoming product from China for every product China tariffed the US, which mean whatever damage done to China the Chinese is dealing 3 times as much to us. They can wait; especially now even strong US allies all willing to talk to China about trade because Trump is doing this.

Trump is either going to be destroying himself if he follow thru or destroying his base if he quit, I don't see how Trump can come out ahead with this, the Tariff policy is very naive because he didn't boost the production value before he did the tariff, hell, he didn't even wait for a longer time so importer can import more to soften the blow.

His 125% tariff apparently doesn’t apply to any ship which has already taken to sea. So ships that took off previous to the tariff will not be charged that. That technically gives him 30 days of breathing room to negotiate a deal with China which is why he has sent an emergency team to Shanghai overnight.

God Trump is a fucking idiot.

China can keep going. If Trump wants destruction, China would be more than happy to oblige.

Let me put this out there for others to see what happened in 24 years, and why China isn't going to blink.

This trade war will go on for a long time, and U.S. members of the PDF are advised to prepare for it and stock up on more supplies as soon as possible.

Here's the thing... People are already panic buying on food items! Just went out to get a few things and shelves were empty people filling carts with staples.

Was NOT expecting that! And yes it creates an added concern on what is going on in people's minds.

I am 100 for getting manufacturing back to the states but this is not the way to do it. In fact, Trumps behavior is literally chimp tier retardation.

Businesses lay out 5-10 year plans for their manufacturing investments. When you have a clown doing complete 180s every four hours on truth social, you cannot make $50 million dollar plans based on that.

In addition, he is applying across the board tariffs on supply chains and products that the US doesn’t produce and has no infrastructure for. It only makes sense to use tariffs as a way to boost manufacturing when its coupled with a comprehensive industrial policy that creates the infrastructure and environment to nurture the industries you need, but this clown is just throwing tariffs at everything.

Goddamn this idiot is so low IQ it is shocking.

Tarrifs are good for the economy. More tax money is coming in so the state can invest it in good things and make life comfortable.

No they aren’t good for the economy. Americans are already living month to month trying to survive from the inflation of the last four years. These tariffs are basically a huge tax on the middle class and poor which will further decimate living standards.

See it from the bright side - less Ali Express shipping around the world, better for the climate, more home ground products and local inventerism.

Why should a Chinese containership bring for billions of plastic toys and paint to the US? If you can produce the F-22 Raptor, then you can certainly produce toys and paint.

If you think these ships are just bringing in toys, there is no point to continue this discussion because you are not even living in reality. Your idea about China seems to be stuck in 1998.

China produces a huge gamut of essential items. These are necessary for the economy to function. People depend on these directly or indirectly in their every day lives.

Yes many of these can be produced in the US, but they will cost significantly more and will price out most buyers. In addition, relocating all of these industries stateside will take decades of investment which the US hasn’t done at all.

As long as there are no fistfights over toilet paper....................

In seriousness though, people are humiliatingly stupid when it comes to food. Most don't know just how much fresh produce is flown in from south of the border. In the case of Mexico and the product, trucked in.

The reason people can get things like fresh cherries and grapes for example in December and January is because that is flown in from places like Mexico, Peru, Ecuador, Chile, and Argentina. My pineapples all come in from Costa Rica. Grapefruit and oranges are a non-issue at the moment; we had a great harvest this year.

Staples like eggs and dairy products; during covid more was dumped out on the ground than you can shake a stick at all thanks to idiotic lockdowns which in turn created panic buying of what was available. I never saw anything like that before.

If people would stop and think, which for too many is hard to do, they will be fine.

In all this, China seems to be the most rational and grounded actor. After this is done, shifting import-export policies might make China appear ahead.

What's your take on this? I feel the regional countries around China might try to integrate more. The South Koreans learned the hard way; they lost market share a decade ago and are trying to claw it back.

I would say Japan and South Korea will survive as not easy to expand capacity for car/ electronic production in USA.

Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore will likely be the most hit in SEA. Malaysia and Singapore tarrif is relatively low but their economy relies more on global trade. We can see their GDP growth plung when global trade getting squezed.

Indonesia due to less reliance on global trade ( as international trade only counts at around 20 % of Indonesia GDP while for Singapore and Vietnam around 100 % of their GDP) will likely end up to be the least effected and US market is also not significant for our export. Export to USA compared to Indonesia's GDP is only at 2.2 % and our main competitors in ASEAN which are Thailand and Vietnam get greater tarrif than Indonesia.

We will see more clearly the effect several months from now
