JF-17 - Updates, News & Discussion

Mig-29 operators could make for the perfect future JF-17 operators. One commonality both have are the power unit (i.e. RD33/RD93)
Yes, PAC does a piss poor job at marketing. They need to target Mig 29 operators, focus on converting them. Alot of 29s arent fit for modern combat and suffer from availability issues. PAC needs to do a comparative analysis against the mig 29 and use that as their key marketing point and approach

They should also focus in on the relative commonality in engines with the mig-29. A lot of procurement is life cycle cost and the shift over to the JF-17 will be the smoothest with its Klimov Engine. For Russia, it keeps Uzbekistan at least somewhat in their defense support network, if they use the Klimov Engine.

I hope PAC visit the Uzbek Airbases to gauge what the operating environment looks like so they can tailor their marketing and support offering appropriately.

yes, exactly the reason for proposing them to mig 29 users.

pac should also focus on easing the transition to mig 29 users. offer soviet style symbology, soviet style cockpit ergo, etc etc

Agreed, They really should be studying what is working with the Azeris and see if it can be applied to other former Soviet republics or operators of Soviet era equipment, especially the MiG-29 as you mentioned.

A significant reason for Mig 29 availability is engine issues. You may find that a problem when trying to sell the JF-17. Equipping it with WS-13 should solve that.

RD-33 core has been significantly improved in the RD-93 - more so in MA and even more so in Chinese adoption. But it’s still the same core - however for any legacy Mig-29 operators sitting with RD-33 its a massive leap in MTBO

Let's hope someone from PAC saw this thread and actually tries laying some ground work.

Jeff can easily be a Mig-29 replacement and for some a F-7 replacement

That’s not entirely accurate.

There are also serious corrosion issues with the airframes, alongside a poor spare parts supply chain, made worse by the Russian war. Also an older aircraft with old systems and avionics , it will only get worse as mig dies its slow, painful death.

The JF-17 corrects most of the shortfalls of the mig and also gives operators an actually modern and capable platform for use today.

I wonder how much of the MiG-29's overseas issues also have to do with how Russia generally supports export users. IIRC, even the IAF Su-30MKI fleet suffered from low availability rates at various points.

Hence, I don't think it's just a MiG-29 issue, but a wider Russia challenge. Western suppliers take after-sale support much more seriously, even with more difficult customers, like the PAF (which has to contend with US controls, sanctions, etc).

IMO, I don't think PAC is best equipped to handle the after-sale support side of the equation. It's one thing to manage the PAF fleet at home, but quite another to support someone else's fleet overseas.

This video is the basis of the Uzbek speculation. As far as I can tell two RPM indicators mean a twin engine bird so not a Jf-17.

Yes and no id say.

PAC as part of aftersales support provide 3 years of servicing and fleet support.

Though yes, youre right, the super mushak fiasco in turkey shows the competence. Those birds are suffering with serious issues with their brakes. bet the turks regret buying them now

I can basically determine that this is the foreign trade version of the J-35.
1. English UI
2. The pilot wears a pilot helmet with Chinese characteristics. This helmet is only worn by Chinese pilots and some PAF pilots.
2. Large screen

However, filming in the cockpit is absolutely a violation of the confidentiality agreement. I don't know how this video was circulated.................

Can MODS move this video to the PAF's J-35 dedicated thread?
It's L15...

its not a J-35...

The J-35s LE slats run the length of the wing.
