What's the difference for Iran?
Iran hasn't weaponized its enriched uranium after 22 years of struggling with really tough sanctions.
We can continue to stockpile enriched uranium, but if we don't want to go after weaponization of it, it is absolutely useless and a complete waste of resources and energy.
Countries with commercial nuclear enrichment go after 1 million SWU U/year. Iran's SWU capacity is about 10K SWU UF6/year. Soon, we will have 3 nuclear reactors that each one of them requires 27 tones of uranium enriched to 3.5%. Our nuclear enrichment has to increase to 550,000 SWU UF6/year to support our own nuclear program for one year. Do you think the West will allow us to increase our enrichment 55 times? Of course not.
So, if we can't use our enriched uranium for our own nuclear reactors, and if we don't intend to use it for fission bombs, then why should we continue to do something that is useless and stupid?
Iran has massive underground nuclear centrifuge program for UF6, it does not need reactors for it. i firmly belive iran for the last 20+ years have amassed enough U235 from centrifuges to have dozens of nuclear weapons on a short notice.
West secondary objective is IAEA programs and primary objective is to get into hidden programs of enrichments by having this deal.
