There is no good reason for US to avoid Vietnam anniversary

I think it's the Vietnamese government that's going overboard by asking Americans to participate in Vietnam War Memorial Day. Do you want them to go and receive the ridicule of defeat?
the only concession I think of is Vietnam gov didn’t invite army troops from Russia, Ukraine and North korea. the latter is most likely a provocation to the US.

Why doesn't Vietnam invite Russia ? Soviet/Russia helped Vietnam in the war too, big way too. But, you invite US ?

its about the armies not representatives. Russia is an aggressor state under Putin. if anything North Korea army is welcome.

Vietnam is officially pro-Russia or at least neutral in Ukraine war ? And majority of Vietnamese strongly support Putin and Russia in the war.

I don´t know anybody in Vietnam that supports Russia.
Russia is not USSR, today just a colony of China. the russians kill ukraines and vice versa. what´s that?

"Vietnam has maintained a neutral stance on the Russo-Ukrainian War since 2014, and this stance has remained following the Russian invasion of Ukraine, although the majority of Vietnamese people in Vietnam strongly support Russia and Putin, and in spite of dissidents' and democracy activists' support for Ukraine, as ..."

Loads of them, actually. Many are out there supporting Russia pounding Ukraine, but can't even take a few minutes to tell the difference between Russia and the Soviet Union.

Vietnam sends army to march in Russian Victory parade, but you you don't invite Russian army to march in Vietnam Victory parade, sort of strange.

The PLA was out practicing their marching on Le Duan Street yesterday, which is kinda ironic considering Le Duan and China basically couldn't stand each other.
not a problem for China I think. most streets in Vietnam are named after war heroes. many of them were fighting Chinese imperials.

Are these troops mostly from the North, or were they handpicked from the South just for this event? I've always heard that people from Southern China are usually shorter than Northerners, but not really sure what the average height in the South is.

Northerners are slightly higher than southerners, with little difference.

These soldiers are from the Honor Guard and Ritual Corps of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, and there is a height requirement when selecting personnel.

The only military unit in China responsible for national level ceremonial duties.

“At the invitation of the Ministry of National Defense of Vietnam, from late April to early May, the Honorary Guard Corps of the Chinese People's Liberation Army formed an honor guard detachment and went to Vietnam to participate in the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South.”
