Deals for 26 Rafale-M jets, three Scorpene submarines to be signed by next month: Navy Chief

No way in hell are we buying 114 of those overpriced jets, IAF will go bankrupt.
Even in the best case scenario no more than 54 will be bought,
Bringing the total number for aircraft IAF to be 90 (5 squadrons)
Add Navy Aircrafts that will be transferred to IAF in due time (assuming TEDBF goes through) and you will have your 116 aircrafts, more than enough for IAF.

IAF will prefer Rafale F 5 over F 35

As mentioned in the Press Information Bureau report. And remember a PIB report means that this is coming from the Govt of India.

So additional equipment for the IAF's 36 Rafales is also included in this, along with weapons, training, simulator, PBL. One can only speculate what the additional equipment for the IAF is.

Plus this-

This definitely means more Rafales are coming for the IAF. Otherwise it makes no sense to ask for setting up of production facility for Rafale fuselage and full MRO for the M-88, RBE2 AESA radar and various weapons for just 62 Rafales between the IAF and IN overall.

Could be setting the stage for the 114 MRFA.

Deliveries to be completed by 2030.

Additional equipment for IAF Rafales is basically the Rafale F4 upgrade kits for 36 Rafale F3R aircrafts currently in service and buddy refueling Kits for 10 IAF Rafales

And yeah
Additional Rafales are coming
Not 114, but around 36-54
We are not going to get full manufacturing of Rafales, however enough TOT will be provided so that we are not completely dependent on France for critical spares

Why there is no mention of 3 scorpeans?
Are they going to delay it further? We need those heavy scorpeans asap....

Did you even bother to read the PIB report? It clearly states "setting up of production facility for Rafale fuselage as well as MRO for aircraft, engines, sensors and weapons in India".

Why on earth would India pay extra for a new production facility for Rafale fuselages if they plan to get just 40 odd more?

"IAF will go bankrupt" Funny, IAF never as its been financed through budgetary allocation by GoI and GoI might be never be, since $ 600+ billion in its kitty.

further, its not about 114 aircrafts, its about 48 for IN & 126+36 for IAF total approx. 174-210 jets will be rolled out local factory rest will be imported.

You do realise that defence budget is not some infinite money pot and each arm of the military has it's own set quota from that budget

This financial year it was nearly 10 billion dollars for the IAF and they will not have any money left for the next 10 years if we "buy" 114 Rafales
Instead of bankruptcy do you want me to call it "Amritkal"

I guessed the payment will be staggered year wise based on delivery schedule.

Do you realise that the entire payment doesn't have to be done in one go? That there are installments which need to be paid, upon the completion of milestones?

If the GoI decides that it wants the IAF to get 114 MRFA fighters, then it can be done. Given the current situation, I don't think even the Ministry of Finance will try to put obstacles in the way of such a deal if the MoD pushes for it.

Personally speaking, if I am Indian, I wouldn't waste my money on Rafale, I would opt for F35.

F35A suffers from High Maintenence cost, low availability rate and high US oversight
F35 has been offered by both Trump and Vance
What happens when republicans get out of power in 2029.

A Woke US Democratic party President could very well cancel the deal, like they did with Turkey.

Yes, Budget is an infinite money pot, its only after realization of expenditure it can be considered as actual cost, till then it’s an infinite money pot.

Do you know GoI paid $4.3 billions for 40 Su-30s in 2012 ? and Rafael might cost be between $30-40 billions maximum for 200+ aircrafts, with scheduled of 12-14 years, it will cost maximum of $3 billion per year which is affordable for GoI.

Americans impose many conditions and pre conditions

IAF has used Rafales against F 35 in Red Flag exercises

So they know whether Rafale is capable or not

True, and most likely there will be a secret kill switch on board.
