Unfortunately even if such tiny frigate could fit a VLS for something meaningful like Sayyad family, you see clearly that Sahand doesn't fit still search radar. At much FCR she had before, so even with something like Sayyad the frigate would go one eyed to combat, just using the FCR as a improvised search radar.

Majid is better than nothing. Putting a Majid on Sahand or even the larger tanker ships and Sina FAC gives it better capability than whatever manual operated AAA canon (Zu23 or Bofors 40mm). With attack helicopters and drones being prevalent in the PG, Majid and Kosar are not bad options. It's not ideal but those two systems are smaller and cheaper options than their larger systems.

Take the Sina FAC of the IRIN or even the Tondar FAC of the IRGC. Replace the Bofors/Zu23 in the rear with a short range SAM like Majid, Kosar, or Azaraksh and you get some protection from drones, helicopters, and some low flying aircraft. The AAA canons these ships have are of no significant value. They are outdated and not even upgraded with radars. AHEAD, etc. Azaraksh would probably be ideal given its range.


For larger ships like Makran etc, putting one of these short range SAM isn't a bad idea. The egyptians temporarily had Avenger SAM on their Mistral carrier.

and here small and cheaper mean useless. not all system have the same purpose , majid is not designed to protect a ship

Thanks Mr. Sahureka for bringing those interesting pictures. IMO (just my oppion) the spherical antenna over the new mast it is too small to be a radar. Seems to me a ESM equiment, even more, the size it is nearly the same ESM antenna that Talaiyeh have (3 of them over the hangar). There is a stern mast with another antenna over that spherical one, that seems to be another ESM.
