If they were shelling each other or fighting in the air, China would not send troops to intervene, but would only provide armaments to support them. But China will never allow India to violate Pakistan's territorial sovereignty. The Chinese government has already made clear warnings on many occasions.So they're going to intervene militarily if hostilities break out between India and China ?
This not not Vietnam or Korea, can't draw a parallelwith those wars here.
China is not treaty bound to do that, is it ?
There is no defense treaty between China and Pakistan. But there was also no defense treaty between China and Vietnam during the Vietnam War. When the Korean War broke out. China and North Korea also did not have a defense treaty. China's forceful involvement was never based on a treaty.
Ethnicity, cultural influence etc is also a big factor.
You can probably expect some PLA action say on the borders if real serious war ever breaks out as did in 1965.
It is India that is so obsessed by "ethnoreligious" determinants, constantly portraying some groups as "the other" but some groups as "sacred cows", purely on the basis of ethnoreligious descriptors.

However, the Indian state narrative blurs their lines. For example, if you're north Indian, you're ethnically similar to me, but by virtue of my religion, I am regarded a "traitor" to my "native heritage".
