I don't think people enhanced the natural beauty of the US much. Well at least we sent most of the strip mining overseas.

"Enhancing" natural beauty is not really a good idea or even possible IMO, but preserving and maintaining it, while make it accessible for more to enjoy and appreciate is a delicate balance. That is something USA has done quite well in many areas, and many others are a work in progress.

The technology of the mine and its history are pretty interesting, not to mention the blue ponds themselves are beautiful to look at in the setting of the contrasting scenery.
