but yes the official range is 100 km and no escape zone is 60km
the pl-15e that Pakistan get has a 145km official range

The interesting thing is that the PL15 has a slightly greater range. The PL15 has a higher speed and this gives the user an advantage.

PL15/PL15E has two unique features, other countries don't have yet or are under development (AIM260).

PL15 has dual pulse. Cruising during middle course, acceleration again when the embedded seeker locks on target at the final stage.

PL15 has an AESA seeker, can operate in low detection mode, approaching without triggering the warning system.

Please I don´t understand that. Whatever emits can be easily detected, specially when the emission comes from the own missiles. The only way it is TSARH guidance, because with SARH guidance a CW radar must be locked onto the target.

They are most likely referring to LPI/LPD, a novel technique that emerged with the recent advances in multi-band radar technology.

I’m not a radar person, but from by crude understanding it means instead of a strong radar signal intensity spike in a narrow window of frequencies, a radar employing in LPI/LPD would modulate across a wide spectrum of bandwidths with lower intensities that would delay the detection by traditional RWR and EM-MAWS detection

We need a fighter in the class of SU-30 or 35. Or a local jet, even if inferior to its foreign counterparts, it can be reliable given its easy production, easy upgradation and cost effective maintenance.

This takeaway, especially the argument about Asymmetric Response is spot on, I’m surprised that the post didn’t get more upvotes.

Though I would differ on the final conclusion about Iran needing Su-30/35s to stop Israeli stand-off strikes. Experiences in the Russo-Ukraine conflict have shown for both sides that stopping constant harassment of stand-off munitions really cannot and should not fall on the shoulders of tactical jets, which are slow to respond and expensive to sortie compared to ground based air defence systems.

Given the immense “mass” of Iran, it is impossible for Israel to commit precious stand-off munitions in mass strikes on civilian structures, instead saving them for strikes against critical military and political targets. In this case, what Iran needs, in my opinion, is a mature, layered, early warning and air defence system, combining both high end systems like KJ-500s and HQ-9s that offers both long range surveillance and UHF counter-stealth capability, as well as intermediate, terminal, and self-propelled rapid response interception.

I’m not saying Iran doesn’t need flankers period - Iran have a huge airspace and lots of fringe territories that are… unfit for permanent military presence, shall we say, and jets with long loiter time and range while carrying substantial payloads like flankers can and will be useful. But it shouldn’t be counted on as a response to superior force

The Iranians have their own version called the Fakour-90, allegedly drawing inspiration from both the original phoenix and the MIM-24 Hawk SAM.

It's just that large diameter high-drag fin-steered AAMs are not as flexible against mid-low altitude maneuvering targets compared to more modern designs, as well as limiting in what platforms and hardpoints can be used to mount them.

Is this missile so large that can only be carried by heavy jets like Flankers? Even larger than Aim260 which can be carried within F35? If so then it’d be better to develop new missiles rather than to find a large jet to carry, since even F14 can shoot down Su57 as long as you get Tom Cruise as the pilot

I feel like I need to remind you that Iran for the better part of the last few decades have been subjected to some of the harshest tech and economical embargoes. They have to make do with what they have, beggars can’t be choosers

IRIAF could asked for license production of JF17 when the world wasn't sensitive about it , but those old senile decision makers simply are living in 1980s , 1990s and mock both Pakistanis and Chinese fighters ...

Pakistan has been trying hard to find buyers of JF17 from even Africa....

Here, do even J10s have those foreign buyers like Indian LCA who may match "living standard" of countries like, Argentina and other countries who have been invited to see Indian LCA's seminars ?
