Ukrainian drones hit a significant amount of Tu-95MS, Tu-22 M33 and A-50s(reportedly 40+ in total)

That's gonna hurt. Losing that many bombers to a single operation.
 
I thought thier much vaunted S500 missile defence system would have protected those airbases.

Strategic bombers are needed to reach enemy beyond regional airspace, you can't attack USA or Japan with drones, drones don't have a intercontinental range, It only good for nearby conflicts and don't tell me ICBMs can reach enemy at intercontinental range, yes they are but their trajectories can easily be predictable and can intercepted by advanced ABM systems

Strategic bombers are outdated in the drone age.
 
The incompetence of Russian military and intelligence keeps reaching new highs!

Obviously this was not a purely Ukrainian operation, they have all the support of American and European intelligence but this is a strong punch in the stomach for Russia.

Not that they have my sympathy. They arm and support banyas so serves them well!

Don't have payloads comparable to bombers how much can payloads it can carry? few hundreds kilograms at best whereas Tu-160 can carry a payloads of 40,000+ kilograms lol

There's an old Chinese saying. A tiger is no match for a pack of wolves. Strategic bombers are no match for drones. Drones are far more numerous than strategic bombers.
 
Astounding strike . Will be interesting to see what Russia does as a response.
