If you are referring to Air Marshal Bharti's statement in the press conference following the aerial engagement, he actually said:
"We are in a combat scenario and losses are part of combat. However, we have achieved all our objectives and all our pilots are back home,"
He never said they were "safe", nor did he clarify the condition they were in (dead vs alive vs injured).
Not one member of India's brave and free press community asked for the obvious clarification that was needed. 1.5 billion bit their collective tongue.
