At the 11th World Radar Expo in Hefei, China unveiled the JY-27V, a next-generation radar system developed by China Electronics Technology Group Corporation (CETC). Branded as a “stealth killer,” the JY-27V is specifically designed to detect advanced stealth aircraft such as the U.S. F-22 Raptor and F-35 Lightning. Mounted on a mobile truck platform, the radar can be fully deployed in just 10 minutes, highlighting its rapid-response capabilities.
The JY-27V operates in the meter-wave frequency band, which is more effective at detecting stealth aircraft that are optimized to evade higher-frequency radars. It features a large Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) antenna and uses advanced algorithms to improve tracking accuracy and target discrimination over long distances. Its compact, silent-folding design supports both mobility and concealment, making it suitable for dynamic battlefield environments.
Key improvements in the JY-27V include an expanded frequency range, a larger antenna array, and more intelligent signal processing software. These upgrades collectively enhance its ability to identify and track low-observable targets. However, despite its promising specifications, the radar's real-world effectiveness remains uncertain due to the lack of independent testing or validation outside of China.
