Nearly three weeks after the end of a brief but brutal India-Pakistan war, New Delhi on Monday warned that the root causes of the conflict remain unchanged — and that India stands ready to strike anywhere in Pakistan if provoked by terrorist attacks.

"It [Pakistan] is a country very steeped in its use of terrorism as an instrument of state policy. That is the whole issue," Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar told POLITICO during a visit to Brussels.

Asked if the conditions that led to the outbreak of war last month were still in place, he said: "If you call the commitment to terrorism a source of tension, absolutely, it is."

Conflict broke out in early May after India accused Pakistan of sponsoring a terrorist attack that killed 26 civilians, mainly Hindus, in an Indian-administered region. Pakistan has denied sponsoring terrorism.

Following days of tit-for-tat missile and aerial strikes that prompted widespread alarm about the potential for further escalation between the two nuclear-armed powers, India and Pakistan declared a ceasefire on May 10.

Both sides declared victory, but their reports on how the war unfolded differed. India initially denied claims that Pakistan had shot down as many as six of its fighter jets, but a senior Indian military official later acknowledged that India had indeed lost planes — without specifying how many or what type.

Images of wreckage posted on social media suggest that one Mirage jet and one Rafale jet, both French-made fighters, had been destroyed. U.S. and French officials have told several media outlets that Pakistan was able to down at least one French-made jet with Chinese technology.

Pressed to clarify what had happened, Jaishankar didn't deny the destruction of Indian Air Force planes, but said the appropriate authorities would communicate on the matter when ready.

In some of the most pointed comments by an Indian official since a ceasefire was declared, he argued that India's fighter planes and missiles had inflicted far more extensive damage on the Pakistani Air Force than vice versa, forcing Pakistan to sue for peace.

"As far I'm concerned, how effective the Rafale was or frankly, how effective other systems were — to me the proof of the pudding are the destroyed and disabled airfields on the Pakistani side," he said.

"The fighting stopped on the 10th for one reason and one reason only, which was that on the 10th morning we hit these eight Pakistani, the main eight Pakistani airfields and disabled them."

"And don't take my word for it, these are images which are available in Google. You can look at those runways and those hangars which have taken the hit," he added.

Jaishankar, who was in Brussels for high-level trade talks with the European Union, further asserted that Pakistan was training "thousands" of terrorists "in the open" and "unleashing" them on its southern neighbor.

"We are not going to live with it. So our message to them is that if you continue to do the kind of barbaric acts which they did in April, then there is going to be retribution, and that retribution will be against the terrorist organizations and the terrorist leadership."

"And we don't care where they are. If they are deep in Pakistan, we will go deep into Pakistan," he added.

Indian guest commenters should note with interest that at no point did Jaishanker confirm or even suggest the damage of Pakistani aircraft. He had the opportunity to make this spurious claim in his rather verbose response about damage from the conflict, yet he did not repeat ANY of the Twitter claims about f16s or any other Pakistani jets being damaged. He ONLY mentioned airfield damage.

Dude looks like the villian from singham movie

This is not specific to PL-15, all modern day BVRAAM's have sensors which share such info through datalink with the launch aircraft.
Like I said, the reason we claimed 5-0 was not out of thin air, it was based on data.
Also we launched much higher number of PL15s on the night of 6/7, these 5 were the one's that gave back a "Hit confirmation" along with aircraft signature.
I know another very interesting fact about the 7 second window and why the IAF jets were not able to take evasive action, though I don't know if this will be an operational secret or not so I will refrain from sharing.
Let's just say PL-15 performed beyond it's perceived capabilities, poor Indians thinking we had the "Export Version".
We didn't launch 15s blindly. We knew the count and calculated an approximate value of kills. Surprisingly it paid off big time as the collected data showed. That's why we first claimed 5 and later 6 upon data confirmation. Link 17 is truly the unsung hero of the skirmish along with EW and 15s.
PAF tactics were much superior and unconventional on the day. Do note that the possibility of a 7th kills is very likely as the data suggests.
Lastly, that Egyptian SIM is far from the truth. Taking cover would've worked 20 years back not today. RBE2 would've picked em up anyway.

Totally agreed on this one

Bunyan marsoos should have happened within 24-36 hours max of that attack of 7th May and not after 4 days
1 - More jets should have shot down on 7th May- There shouldn't be a restraint when your country is attacked.
2 - Even during that night, our side should have used CMs and QBMs

There shouldn't be a wait for response BS. The damage to your adversary will be your biggest presentation for the adversary and for the whole world to see.

astonishing level of word wizardry...

seems devised in such a way to hide 'less said and unspoken' truth..

Truth: India will not talk......... period!

sorry to point this out: there still was no immediate retaliation.

we didnt bomb india immediately, we let them attack us for two full days using drones and cruise missiles before jumping into action, that too after an airbase was hit.

loss of civilian life is not considered significant enough by our planners to retaliate.
Correction. They did retaliate immediately to the jets fighters targeting of civilians areas. Hence it is why there are at least loss of 5 IAF aircrafts.

As for the attacks on air bases with Brahmos and drones, I agree that there is a limitation in our reaction as the army probably assumed they would have been silenced after they targeted civillians.

However history have shown Pakistan to have adapted in 2025 conflict based on 2019 experiences. I have confidence they will adapt again using 2025 experiences, in future conflicts.

Additionally, you may put ANKA-3 into the mix. It can do the deep strikes while being deep into the enemy territory undetected.....

Pakistan was trying to avoid escalation that we could ill afford is all. They fired SOW’s we downed their jets, rightly or wrongly the hope was that would be the end of it but India couldn’t leave it at that. Its top jets including Ra-fail were down left right and centre, they had to do something that Modi could beat his chest about & they were less bothered about escalation because of deeper pockets. With 🤡AF next to useless they kept prodding and poking for 2 days with drones and misiles. When Pakistans patience finally ran out it counter attacked and within a few hours of that Indian spokesperson came on tv t o ask for deescalation. By then India had done some largely superficial damage in Pakistan but enough when combined with generous helping of Godi media and outright lies ( like downing PAF jets😂) to save Modi and CO’s blushes. With its limited resources Pakistan did amazingly well and in a reality that world capitals like Beijing and Washington fully understand, humiliated and exposed what is a paper tiger. End of, rest is Coping BS
Firing missiles into a nuclear armed arch rival is a red-line for the super and great powers that matter. A nuclear attack is a no-go area even for Russia. They didn't allow even Israil to go nuclear during the 1973 Arab-Israil War, rather established an "Air Bridge" to militarily support her. The top folks can go to any length to prevent it for it renders an end for them too, according to an MIT study done during the Bush II presidency. The deaf, blind and dumb Hindutva Bharat has arrogantly shown that stupid audacity. The entire world has understood: Hindutva's religious redemption lies in nuclear Pakistan's perdition. It's Al Kida + ISIS with a nuclear steroid....

The Hindutva Terrorist State of Bharat has been a problem for Pakistan. Thanks to 05-07 to 05-10, she has become a chronic cancerous tumor for the entire world. And, it's the biggest achievement IMO...
