I don't think people really know the power a US President has: Despite all the talk of the division of power between the House, the Senate and the Presidency, an American President, through his personal inclinations, drives a lot of policies and in general, for the last several decades, an American President can be a dictator on many things except extreme acts like launching a nuke.
My point being: An American President often exercises more power than theoretically a large part of the Congress standing against him because the Congress is so increasingly partisan after Nixon that the legislatures are supine. An American President can be as dictatorial as North Korea's Kim on many things!
