Iranian Air Force (IRIAF/IRGC-ASF) | News and Discussions

Before this war, I was of the belief that all Iran needed is strong air defense, air launched cruise missiles from jets like F4, Kowsar, SU-22, etc, and ballistic missiles.

It seems much more clear now that a modern multi-role fighter is needed. J10 and MIG-35 seem to make the most sense.

Did F4's, SU-22's, etc even get in the air to launch cruise missiles in this war?
I think everyone is in the belief at this moment that Russian military ware is not the way to go let’s see if china actually mans up and sends anything worthwhile but contrary to what a few members here would say Irans Air Force is ancient in comparison to other countries hell im going to say it Qatar would beat Irans Air Force toe to toe a lot great pilots flying barely airworthy aircraft sad to say

I pray that Pakistan and China will allow the sale of fighter jets and awacs

It would be a good start, but still not enough for a country the size of Iran

@Persian Gulf

I suggest to immediately ban anyone that talks again about those "F-4AM+++" "F-14AM++" if Iran ever talks about that i'm giving up every hopes

Why were Iranian cruise missiles and advanced drones a no-show ?

Only Irani AF we saw were those two blow up toy F-14 dummy’s which IDF quadcopter destroyed and everybody here thought Irani AF gone now…..😝
Those were not quad copters - and if it decided to hide in caves and HAS in eastern bases then the IRIAF was gone from the conflict for all intents and purposes.

But you keep lifting - lifting and lifting.

Oh bhai, even if they were Jeff thundurr or eff-solay, they too would be in caves no?

come on no?

IDF drones were everywhere.

First and foremost, Iran should stop relying on a mix of old Soviet-era systems, reverse-engineered Western hardware, and newer domestic platforms that lacked seamless integration and centralized command and control.

This patchwork setup created blind spots and communication lags, especially under the pressure of a coordinated, multi-domain assault by IAF.

We all so the result. Iran lost the air battle space fairly quickly. I dont believe Mossad had enough personnel to takeout numerous batteries of Sayeed, bavar or khordad. There wasnt a cohesive air space deniel strategy to begin with. No unified airspace management doctrine or real-time data-sharing. It was also so fragmented that individual systems operated in silos, unable to support or back each other up.

The Iranian AD network's downfall wasn’t due to a lack of hardware ,it was the absence of integration, strategy, and most importantly a robust AWACS network.

They were possibly stored in bases that were made inaccessible at the start of the conflict. Some western bases while not destroyed, were knocked out from an accessibility perspective.

The Iranians saw what the Israelis could do.

Now address those shortcoming quick.

Perhaps get some help from Russians and Chinese NOW instead of ridiculous indigenous projects.

Iran needed hypersonic missiles. It is the cheapest way to match Israeli resources. This exchange would have been far more destructive for Israel if it was the case.

Absolutely no doubt. The Iranians are 100% right to go with hypersonic missiles. They have proven to be one of the most effective modern weapons in the world. That is a big deal.

I dismissed the need for a modern air force for offensive reasons, but their defensive potential is glaring. China, Russia, Iran, etc need jet fighters for defense, to combine with strong air defense.

What would be wrong with MIG-35?

Jf17 block 3 is the answer. if not because Iran and Russia love. then su35 or mig 35 is right choice.

It depends on the role and requirements.

JF-17 Block 3 (Light weight) is optimized for affordability, ease of maintenance, and modern avionics. It’s ideal for nations seeking a capable multirole platform with low lifecycle costs and high sortie rates.

MiG-35 (Medium weight) offers superior kinematics, payload, and survivability in high-threat environments, but at a significantly higher operational and logistical cost.

For Pakistan, the JF-17 Block 3 represents a cost-effective backbone with indigenous production and upgrade potential. The MiG-35, while technically superior in some areas, may not offer proportional value unless air superiority and heavy strike roles are prioritized.

AF wont be build in one day or even a decade if even equipment is being given it wont have the knowledge, expereince, training etc. It requries for real war. India wont train Iran, China will never, Turkey no way, Russia never in million years, and Pakistan would never ever due to Iran siding with India, many time backstab Pakistan, and creating terror proxies in BA.

They will be sitting ducks for Israeli Air Force because of no air defence and 1000s of mossad agents roaming freely in Iran, good start would be to first cleanse Iran of mossad/RAW network, then fix the AD, then work on inducting 100s of jets worth $10s of bn, building a potent air force can take upwards of a decade if you are allowed to buy the jets.

And who blamed for that. Indian are given free visa access in Iran and why would even Pakistan trust Iran. It is worst than trusting Afghan.
