Easier said than done. You have to keep in mind that Iran has been under the most draconian sanctions which inhibit its ability to buy anything meaningful. This is because the sanctions go after the provider/seller.
This is why their Air Force has atrophied and they have no option but to rely on their missile and rocket force.
Incompetence is relative. You have to have platforms that allow you to execute on your tactics and strategy. Iranians have not had that luxury since the revolution.
By way of comparison, most other countries would have capitulated years ago if faced with such sanctions for maintaining an independent foreign policy.
I don't care much for Iran's revolution etc. (and care even less for their corrupt monarchy), but I respect the Iranian people greatly for managing through such great difficulty. God bless them in their struggle against naked tyranny.

This is so heartbreaking to watch. There was another video of cobras being destroyed. They were left out in the open. The country will be helpless as some banana republic.
Evil boy raping degenerates from kandahar and pan insects from within will do to Iran what happened at the end of the Safavids and I don't if there will be a Nader Shah or even Reza Shah this time...
Any news from the navy? Are the catamarans and mowj ships still afloat? The subs?

it seems PESA radars are not effective against 5th gen fighters , so buying Su35 is waste of money ,
JF17 block 3 with Active radar is more useful

And for what it's worth, I think the Iranians did identify & acknowledge this weakness in air defence/air force, there were attempts made to get advanced SAM systems and fighters from Russia but it seems like they were continously being snubbed.

They were in a tough predicament to be in.

On the missile strategy side of things, they were struggling to hit meaningful strategic targets with precision consistently and Israeli AD had a pretty high interception. It acted as a good deterrence (to an extent) & pressure tactic but probably was not enough to balance or give advantage strategically. It also made it worse the launchers were vulnerable and could be struck.

Before this war, I was of the belief that all Iran needed is strong air defense, air launched cruise missiles from jets like F4, Kowsar, SU-22, etc, and ballistic missiles.

It seems much more clear now that a modern multi-role fighter is needed. J10 and MIG-35 seem to make the most sense.

The JF17 is important because it's customisable for any buyer, the whole platform was made like that

Azerbaijan for example is purchasing the JF17, but they are more Turkey oriented so they have paid for integration of Turkish missiles and equipment in a set up more suited to them

Pakistan is going onto the JF17 alpha project to make as much of the platform inside Pakistan as possible except maybe the engine which will come from China and then go onto PFX



For Iran, it needs the J10, and it currently already has placed orders for the Su35 but unless they really pay heavily they are dependent on Russian or Chinese arms and equipment

With the JF17, they have a platform that can fire PL15s and SD10s
But also pick between Chinese, Pakistani and now even Turkish arms

It's a platform that iran can use to incorporate ITS OWN BVR missiles, it's own cruise missiles or SOWs or glide bombs
If it wants it can get a work share to help them better understand the manufacturing process etc

The JF17 is a platform that works for a number of reasons, but it works best in partnership with heavier planes like the J10 that can form the spearhead, whilst the JF17 provides support
