I am only commenting on Indians that I have come across working for me...my partner is a Canadian born Indian and he is way more prejudiced against hiring Indians than I will ever be......
Those who wanna work and make a better life they work hard assimilate and are excellent and then there are those I rather not talk.....

The Western culture what I have learned is used to living with council funds aka benefits… a working class earning 2k £ a month saves as much or even less than as the one living with benefits.. council houses, council food , no worries about bills or council tax…. The workforce culture has ended here…
The workforce you will see is mostly foreign in UK… The alcohol and drug culture has ruined the generations from the very young age… Wednesday nights are party (alcohol) nights in universities, not serious about future then Friday and Saturday Nights as well are club nights… not so much of a first world if you compare with Germany… and I believe so is the problem with US as well.. people blame woketards but they never try to find the ground reality and that is employers can’t find candidates for the jobs from within boundaries of the country…

Like why does an engineering team or a company needs to be diverse over meritocracy?

Sure. Can it be proven that all these Indians are in due to favouring merit?

What I mean is, is the gradual shift of demographics down to merit-based appointments or otherwise?

Part of it is merit but a lot is nepotism. Indians tend to hire Indians - period.
More so, even in that there are divisions where certain Indians from certain regions want to hire Indians from that region

They should hire based only on Merit.

Why is there a need to hire only people from one's cultural background? By Western standards that is considered "Racist", and since they work in a Western country, "when in Rome do as Romans do", should be what Indians must abide or just be deported...

A relative of mine used to head an important department in a big IT firm in the US. His team was composed of people of multiple ethnicity and nationalities. One day he received a communication from higher-ups that his team wasn't diverse enough. He was baffled and told them perhaps they were mistaken as his team was quite diverse. Their response was that there weren't any/many white people in his team.

I should have figured that out as to why my current job search are not going anywhere: I declare 'Asian' in the questionaires. Next time, I declare 'White', and put on some chalk on my face, have bright light on my face to convince during the video interviews.
But if could get away with being an 'African American Female' then even better!

I am reminded of the movie Iron Sky. The Nazis secretly escape to the dark side of the moon and hide there, building up a force to invade Earth one day. Decades later American astronauts land there. I have heard a lot about how bad things are in the computer field and I guess its because of all the networking and back office business they obtain for cheap but I can only speak for the medical field....The doctors and tsaff I have are very good and they do a great job!

IT careers are doomed in this country unless some new business model emerges. Trump had ruled out cutting H1Bs. Horrible competition from the overseas techies as well huge number of foreign techies brought here for 'missing skills'. It's really bad in last 2-3 years. Even in my niche skill set with proven credentials, it is extremely tough finding a decent job due to a glut of candidates. Four times in last 7 years I lost jobs due to outsourcing or a foreign company as a factor.
But I have prepared myself well for such disasters and recently a real estate purchase I made is promising to yield a big reward. But the youngen techies... I really feel for them here.

A TIG welder with a certified AWS D1.1 or ISO 1585 rating welding pressure vessels can easily make as much or more than a software mid-level developer earning in excess of $225,000 over a normal 45 hour week.
There is a critical shortage of welders, CNC machinists, hydraulic piping installers, electrical controls technicians.
Moneywise, they don't earn any less and their jobs are far more secure. Our Babu culture doesn't allow us to encourage our youth to take up these opportunities because picking up a welding torch is considered demeaning

I've had to work with Indians abroad every once in a while, they're so unfathomably discriminatory and filthy minded that I get 'Indian fatigue.'

It doesn't help that neither do I remotely look Indian nor do I watch bollywood, so they're extra insecure/standoffish towards me.

I actually feel like kissing the ground when I land home in Pakistan and there's not a single Indian in sight. Complain about the economy all you want but freedom from India is a blessing that truly has no price.

In America's case, it's hard to believe that 75% of the world's H1B tech talent comes from India alone, it's painfully obvious that Indians are committing visa fraud and demographic replacement at a massive, likely state-sponsored scale.

It is not just 'our Babu culture'. Many, many Americans don't want to do handy work but increasingly and wisely doing that.
It is too late for me to learn 'the trade'. I would if I were younger.
