If the IRIAF uses the J-10CE for air superiority, it may be able to conduct some DCA against the IAF in Iraqi airspace, but they cannot go as far as Syria without at least some tankers.

The risk is high at the moment. Iran needs to deeply vet anyone and everyone even remotely close to any thing of authority in their country. They may need to electronically and physically secure their borders before they acquire aircraft. Iran will have to start by vetting its Air Force; pilots, maintainers, and ground support to make sure any team sent to china for training isn’t infiltrated.

This war did give the Iranian regime the opportunity to do a full house cleaning, and do a secret leadership transition from their 85 year old leader.

If they are able to at least defend their own air space, with small excursions into neighboring air space, that in and of itself will be a big deal. Akin to the North Vietnamese MiGs during the 60s and 70s. But, Iran will have to do better than the North Vietnamese Air Force In being comprehensively proficient in modern aerial warfare if they go for a full Chinese package.

From Chinese perspective, why should China sell advanced military weapons to Iran that will anger its Gulf Arab allies, the Israelis, and by extension the US?

Why should china sign $400 billion deal with Iran when it is under sanctions ? Why should China start trading with Iran through railway track ? Why should china buy 85% of oil produced in Iran when it is under sanctions ?

The issue till date isn't about Chinese reluctance to sell Iran weapons, but the arrogance and pride of Iranians which prevented them from purchasing foreign weapons. They thought they build missiles, they will build 5th generation planes as well.

From Pakistan's perspective, what will it get in return for doing all this, or is this expected to just be a goodwill gesture towards an Indian ally commonly accused of harbouring BLA?

I already answered this. It's not like I can't sleep till Iran is happy. It's just that we don't want Israel on our border roaming in Iranian lands just like it is currently doing in Syria and Iraq. Su-35 would be better given longer range and probably more likely.

Russia is in the middle of a long long war. It need all the weapons. Iran already signed deal for Su-35, but Russia failed to comply and deliver them since 2023. You want Iran to wait for 5 more years ?

I don't believe Iran has ever really truly reciprocated or respected Pakistan's goodwill gestures

I think it's more one-sided, because remember that Iran has been in revolutionary mode for a long time

The Mossad's primary job is to sabotage Iran's military and civilian infrastructure.

As for China, they are probably trying to steal China's 6th gen blueprints and many other's military gears that China is currently leading.

China is now extremely rigorous when it comes to various government contractor jobs, and prohibiting those overasea students for potentially CIA/Mossad ties.

Irans needs a survivable platform that can get up close in contested area to launch missiles. Why? because they need to get up close to get a weapon grade lock on stealth aircraft backed up with advanced EW. Sometimes just relying on awac is not enough to guide the missiles in such complex EW and stealth environment. Iran should have thought about it a decade ago going to be a struggle catch up now.
