Frustrated Google employee wants to quit as half of his teammates are Indians

Still nothing changes
Pakistanis have lagged behind Indians in all areas in USA.
Nothing changes:
  • Yes, Dunkees will remain Dunkees,
  • The Patels will continue to run $25 a night "POTELS" with bug infested beds off the Interstate Highways and get cursed by the drunken semi-drivers
  • The metropolitan airports and county hospitals will continue to use Indian janitors dubbed as "sanitization operations (SO) technicians "
  • Walmart will continue to hire Indian greeters at $7:00 per hour,
  • Indian students at universities will continue to work illegally off-campus at the Patel brothers grocery stores and Circle K gas station and car washes
  • Dunkees will continue trying to cross the borders illegally,
  • Indians will continue to freeze to death trying to cross over from Canada to the USA. https://apnews.com/article/immigrat...ggling-trial-16946bb01a1d1ca2978f29e902e550fc

I am of Pakistani origin living in the USA and have 18 Indian techie-tikki contractors working under me assigned by an Indian BOP, I haven't done as well as the Indians around here but I can only vent my frustration by sometimes ( rarely) "spanking their bottoms" .

Sorry to hear about your bad experience. Hopefully you will earn your bread among people who will value you for your real worth.

Well if people feel so comfortable surrendering their digital rights and privacy that's on them. 🤣.

I'm from the days of Freeware and Shareware, BBS and peer to peer file sharing.

Thanks uncle google but no thanks.
The good old days. I once ran a multinode BBS. Base software was RemoteAccess. Used FrontDoor, AllFix, oh jeez, a couple others. Lightbar menus, few other things.

Was a FidoNet hub as well as several other 'Nets. The day I shut it down I never looked back. Was a lot of work in spite of all the maintenance scripts I wrote for managing a lot of it.

What's the best pub around the Richmond Circle, Cubbon Park, M G Road area in Bangaluru where the techies hang out after their stint ends at 11:00 p.m, ?
I was there years ago and I remember having the best "rum and coke with a slice of lime" at a place some where in that area . @vasanthm
Unlike Hyderabad, I couldn't spend much time in Bangaluru as I had to be in Hosur across the border in Tamil Nadu most of the time, only returning to Bangaluru to sleep .
Mercifully for me, (since I only know a smattering of Tamil having picked up a little in Singapore) I was able to get around due to the fact that English is widely understood and even spoken. Understanding the accent takes a little getting used to, Still I much prefer Bangaluru to Gurugram/Gurgaon where rudeness and aggression is the norm.

that brings back memories! Around that area some classic late-night spots for techies are Pecos, Church Street Social and Toit (a little further on Indiranagar side, but worth the trip for good beer and atmosphere).

If you had that rum and coke with lime at a place that felt like it had history, my bet is Pecos.

Totally agree with you about Bengaluru vs Gurugram. Bengaluru may be chaotic at times, but it’s way friendlier!

@Baibers_1260

These days, whenever I’m in Bangalore, I enjoy visiting pubs like Toit, Arbor Brewing Company (ABC), Byg Brewski, Windmills Craftworks and The Biere Club.
Give them a try if you can.

Yes, it was Pecos.. Thanks for the memories. ! Pleasant memories.. I remember walking down the street to a Chinese food outlet for dinner.

Off all the places I worked briefly on assignments, Gurugram, Hyderabad , Xian, Singapore, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Taipie, Al Khobar, and of course Manchester UK, my most enjoyable time was spent in Bangalore.

I won't ever be visiting India again. A working trip visa was allowed back then for US citizens of Pakistani origin if one was vetted by the host business affiliates. Now that is no longer possible. One of my American colleagues travels to India instead . In any case outsourcing work has dwindled substantially,

I now spend my holidays at a small resort near Makra Peak.
We move on.. . ..

Thanks again .

Glad to know Bangalore holds such fond memories, not just for local techies but for many from other region. There’s something democratic about its social life, probably thanks to the young crowd with spending power that gives it a vibe unlike other affluent cities dominated by old money or power circles. I really enjoy Bangalore too, apart from the maddening traffic! Was the Chinese place you mentioned Shangrila by any chance?

It’s also interesting how Hosur, just across the border, has evolved into a manufacturing hub, while Bangalore became the IT capital. Same country, yet a slight change in state policies seems to have steered them down different paths.

The visa situation is really unfortunate. I guess genuine travellers have become collateral damage after the David Headley episode. Hopefully, both sides will see sense and work towards normalising people to people ties again

Trips were not just to Bangalore but also to Delhi Gurugram , and those visits were not altogether pleasant.
There are travel advisories, particularly for people with "certain names" who might get lynched in case of the outbreaks of frequent religious violence in the Northern cities. I don't look "white" regardless of what passport I am carrying.
So I am pretty thankful I don't have to travel to India anymore. I want to grow old to see my grandchildren,
I still wish all my colleagues there on the occasion of their religious festivals via text or e-mail.

Possibly. . It was a 5-10 minute walk, I was too drunk to recall any details, other than the fact that the chicken sweet corn soup and chow mein were delicious; as was the lemon grass pudding.
Those days are over for good.

Exactly. Everyone is trying to make it as if only Pakistanis are talented and Indians are just get by with defrauding companies. Obviously companies are not naive, they know what they want. India is the only country at the moment that has the critical mass of talent in IT. It is not going to change because of some Pakistani whims.

Of course. But unfortunately, the phenomenon of cronyism is also increasingly prevalent among Indian workers, including those working in US tech companies. This has led to the recruitment of many Indian workers who are less, or even unprofessional.

Demonstrably nonsensical claims? If saying that many well educated Indians are returning to build businesses sounds 'nonsensical' to you, then you’re stuck in some la la land where Indians can only be software coolies.

Straw Man.

The reality is different, there’s a growing wave of startups, high value work, and Indians with global exposure coming back to create and scale businesses here. I see it daily.

And honestly, studying at Oxbridge isn’t the flex you imagine, claiming I cracked the IITs would’ve been far more impressive! I studied at western universities, chose to return to India just like many others and that alone shatters the tired stereotype you’re so desperate to cling to.

Even now, sure, many still aim to settle abroad. But what’s changed is that experienced Indians abroad now see real value in returning. What used to be called 'brain drain' has turned into a net positive, helping bring in more business, investment, and higher value work. The hundreds of millions in VC funds pouring into India aren’t happening by accident. You can keep denying what’s plain to see.

Exceptions do not prove anything. You can find them for every country, including Pakistan.

Are more Indians returning than before? Probably. Does that indicate a reversal of brain drain or India becoming an IT mecca, offering high value products, more enticing than the rest? Hardly. How many of these students return for employment in said startups? Returning to pay in Rupees while pitching in Dollars for low to mid level services isn't the return you are making it out to be. The fact that exponentially more Indians are moving out YOY, legally and illegally, clearly shows India's current position.

Yas India is losing people it's the slowest growing economy. There are no startups, we don't receive any investments, it's all doom gloom. Startups are just dime a dozen around the world, India is at a pitiful third position after the US and China in the number of Unicorn startups. Also if it's such a common thing, why I can't find a single unicorn startup from Pakistan?

Straw Man, again. Present a counter argument.
