The business class in Sindh was largely Hindus and a few Parsis. The Parsis have died out and a large chunk of the Hindus migrated. There has been an influx of Muslim business communities such as Bohris, Memons etc from Gujarat and Bombay post 1947 which has partly made up the loss.

Pakistan when it became independent was a huge country with a low population density.

The majority of Hindu Sindhis migrated to India while the remaining stayed in Pakistan. Probably that is why there is a concentration of Sindhis with huge land ownership.

Muslim Sindhis are as enterprising as their Hindu counterparts. They are doing well for themselves especially in Karachi and thereabouts. The folks in interior are what you may classify as feudals that own agricultural land and have their vassals do the heavy lifting.

The Memons, predominantly traders existed on both sides of the border. They were trading in the border areas along Kutch, Gujrat, Mumbai, Karachi. They are enterprising folks and heavily invested in textiles, servicing, petrochemicals, real estate and so forth. The ARYs, Adamjees, Engros.

Lately a large number of them, have invested in Middle East and doing great for themselves. Not the simple real estate types but proper developers who’re raking in billions.

And now emerging markets such as Oman, Saudi.

Farsis, have unfortunately faced religious persecution and for their own good decided to leave Pakistan. Fortunately the state realized the folly of propping up its extremist elements. The Bohris fortunately are safe and any reported acts of persecution and the state steps in.

Pakistan is full of thriving business tycoons. What it struggles with is elite capture and a lopsided economic structure.

Prominent Sindhis in Pakistan can be categorized into

Feudals - own large swath of agricultural land with their vassals. There is a negative connotation related due to the hierarchical system but it benefits the people (provided the feudal interests align with his vassals). However, democracy struggles to operate within such a system.

Business man - very business savvy. Deepak Perwani, a Hindu Sindhi has made it big. Alot of big wigs in agricultural product trading, textiles, fashion industry.

The Bhutto clan are predominantly Sindhis.

All the good ones went to India. All the trash ones stayed here and were joined by even bigger Sindhi trash like Bhutto clan from India via Junagarrh...

Well they would have their own Bhuttos, Zardaris, Sharifs if they hadn’t resorted to land distribution schemes which essentially broke the back of the feudals.

We on the other hand, give them a free hand, subsidize them, do not tax them. Instead we tax the working class, freelancers, manufacturers and service industries.

Actually Mr. Niazi as sitting PM lamented about not being able to make ends meet. Ironically this was his first 9-5 job.

Most of the Pakistan's ruling class are absolutely detached from the masses. It's a Mercantile venture of feudal lords and clergymen, the business of government.
