Z-10 ME/P deliveries Updates: Pakistan Army Aviation.

This is what I was thinking.

Surely the TTP pose no great threat that we need advanced capabilities of Z-10 for it.

Cobras are more than enough to do the job...almost.
Tens of thousands of Pakistanis have been martyred since 2004 mainly due to insufficient number of Cobras? 🤔

IMO. There is probably a 90% chance that Pakistan will not buy the Z-10ME helicopter gunship.

1. A number of recent wars have shown that the role of the specialized helicopter gunship has been significantly reduced. The threat it faces on the battlefield is higher than ever before.
2. UCAVs have been able to fully replace many important roles of manned specialized helicopter gunships on many levels. Large unmanned helicopters have also emerged.
3, China's more advanced specialized helicopter gunship, the Z-21, has emerged. Pakistan's need for the Z-10ME is not particularly urgent, and it could have waited until the Z-21 matured to buy it directly.

Makes no sense.

Pakistan wanted 3 different attack helicopters from 3 different countries in large numbers all at the same time and couldn't even get 1 from 1 country.

American AH-1Z - US refused.
Turkish T129 ATAC - US denied.
Chinese Z-10 ME - Not good enough.

Instead, Pakistan successfully acquired 4 Mi-35Ms in 2018 from Russia without any issues.
Correction: The Z-10ME was never rejected. It was the earlier baseline Z-10 variants that were turned down due to underperformance—primarily because of insufficient engine power in certain operational conditions.

In response, China took the feedback and made significant upgrades, replacing the original WZ-9 engine with the more capable WZ-9C.

It’s also important to note that the second prototype, the Z-10ME-02, is far more advanced than T-129. It features multiple AESA radar panels, advanced electro-optical systems, and sophisticated sensor fusion capabilities. It's also fitted with an over-the-rotor mast-mounted millimeter wave fire control radar akin to the lastest U.S Apaches. Z-10ME-2 has a larger weapons load aswell, enabling it to carry more missiles, rockets, and advanced pods.

T-129 are bascially outdated , it has an FLIR, laser rangefinder, no radar, No Helmet mounted sights, basic EO capabilities. It was a good purchase for 2015 maybe.

Why did Pakistan commit to purchasing T129 ATAKs if they were expecting China to improvise according to Pakistani requirements?

Comparing this to Turkish T129 the Z10ME has:

- Heavier payload
- Longer-range HJ-10 ATGMs
- Superior Radar & EO sensor suite
- Modular armor + IR suppression
- Beidou integration ready (major advantage over enemies)
- More stealthy
- No US components or western approval needed
-China can provide upgrades and parts for entire lifetime service

Truly a fantastic procurement by Pakistani Army!

Can’t wait to see these in action.

most important aspect in my opinion is network centric warfare, NLOS missiles with 25-70km range (if inducted) and MUM-T capability.

These capabilities shall allow it to carry out anti armor role relatively safely.

The Ukraine-Russia War has shown one thing: don't underestimate any weapons systems - big or small. Everything has got its utility. In the Pak-Bharat scenario, everything moves at a damn fast face like the way ultra-fast bowlers are required to fetch wickets on a dead slow subcontinental pitch. Hence, fast attack choppers when put in collusion with armed drones of all sorts - and, all under the ASELSAN KORAL, VURAL, ILGAR, MILKAR etc. type EW (=ES+ EA +ECM) systems - can surely wreck havoc on the advancing Bharati armored columns by jamming their radars and comms. Not to mention the PAF is destined to keep the IAF at the bay. And, the Hindutva folks are no Orthodox Christian folks; hence, they won't be able to absorb punishment for long....

There was no contract , only an MOU and Pakistan Army personnel arent forturne tellers, that they could somehow predict if newer version of Z-10 was going to meet their requirments. Hence they went with t-129 initially, but held out due to ban on engine. By which time the Z-10ME-2 capability had multipled manyfold.

Even the AH-1Z and the lastest AH-64E Apache Guardian, doesnt have AESA radar panels on the fuselage like the Z-10ME-02. This adds a whole new EW, Jamming Capablitiy to Z-10 ME-2 , giving it the ability to survive under more intense AD environment.

Add to the list
Multiple AESA panels - Not present in even the latest AH-64E Apache Guardian
MMW radar
Advanced DIRCM
TY-90 - Air To Air Missile ( ability to target drones -similar to what IAF Apaches did to shahed drones)

The attack choppers need to have something like the Turkish ASELSAN YILDIRIM-100 laser based systems (1km range) to protect them from MANPADs, A2A missiles etc. by destroying their seekers...
