So the news about F16 is indeed true. Upgradation of some if not all existing platforms will happen. Maybe they may go for new ones. I hope they also go AIM120Ds. J 35s not coming for now. Chinese jets are cheap but maintenance wise they become expensive. PAF love for F16s is unimaginable. Hope this decision becomes fruitful for PAF and cause nightmare for IAF.

Thats why more J10s will be procured (ideally on soft loans). F16s, at this point, is like looking down, sideways. Where we are, we need to look upwards. J10 give us that edge and scalability.

J35s will come regardless

F16s are not a substitute for J35s

If we get a very good deal for the F16s, whatever that deal may be then It makes sense to take it

We already have the infrastructure, pilots and support staff so new F16s can be inducted easily and be good to go in a short time period
But what it will mean is we don't need to Induct JF17s in the same numbers
Or we don't need to go for as many J10s as we originally thought


We still have many mirages and PGs to retire

As it appears PAF has relegated F-16s to secondary role to J-10s,and perhaps even B-IIIs, it looks like units will now be shifted south as well to form a 'Second Sargodha' in the South at Shahbaz. Just like PAF operated F-104 Starfighters from Sargodha in 65, but when sanctions hit and Mirages had arrived they were operated from Masroor in 71

J10 and Jf17 were lethal no doubt but Saab 2000 made that decision decisive. But F16 with Aim 120D without Saab 2000 might perform well. We dont know if J10 and Jf17 without AWACS would have performed in same league as F16, That remains a question.

Yes, this was done a few years ago, PAF wanted two Sqds at Shabaz and Americans would not allow Chinese planes.

9 Sqd stays at Mushaf along with 28 Sqd Aggressors so still a decent number of planes there

F16s got ceiling with Aim120 series. With J10, we can scale up to PL18 (google wont help). Another disadvantage of F16, we dont have any compatible refuelers. We need loitering time, we need range, we need to start looking to operate outside our airspace for the threats that are already starring at us both east and west.

I believe Trump meant these F-16s when talked about trade and pressed for ceasefire, at least for Pakistan. However this seems now a total hoax , both Kashmir mediation and F-16s, given the strong Indian lobby. I also believe Trump threw this bone at Indian behest to make us stop pummeling Indians, as Indians know how big a sucker we are to even hear the word 'Kashmir'.....
