The alternative is to put time and effort to develop technology locally. This will however bring them online faster.

Shale oil and gas reserves in the Indus basin that can be extracted .....9 billion barrels of oil and 500 TCM of gas ( trillion cubic metres )... that's roughly 50 times more than the sui reserves.... it's the data provided by the Americans........

It is only a Trumpian Deal with the Country of Pakistan at this time. If it is actually a deal, what are the details ? Even Trump admitted they don't even have the actual company that will carry out the exploration lined up.

So, yes, since it is a Deal for developing oil reserves that no one is certain exist, it is a fantasy until exploration confirms if they even exist. Based on that big IF, the next step would be to estimate what the cost of extraction would be and whether it is economically viable.

By the way, Venezuela has the highest proven oil reserves in the world, yet it produces relatively little because most of its reserves have a very high breakeven cost.

Unless Trump means Shale gas, Pakistan doesn’t have much proven oil reserves. The Gas is worth trillions of dollars but economically not feasible to extract unless they have found cheaper way to do it.

My guess is.. US wants Pakistan to import oil from the US and less from the Arabs. We import about 18 billion dollars of oil per year if I am not wrong… they want share in the oil imports to balance the trade
