India - US Tariff and Relations | News + Updates

For reaping those benefits, Pakistan has to have decent manufacturing sector, which is almost non-existent.
Even if the effort is started on a war footing, it has a long gestation period of anywhere from 3-4 years depending on what you try and build. That itself would also require a lot of capital.
Not impossible but very difficult.

With China on our side, this will be possible.

China was always on your side. Why didn’t it happen till now?

The US tariff issue has cropped up now. When there was no tariff, what all were you able to achieve?

Rest of the world including Europe was also available to Pakistan all along. How much do you export to them?

Till you all accept that there are fundamental issues in your manufacturing sector and work to resolve them, gloating over this 6% might end very soon.

This 6% edge in tariff edge over India is being sold like a magic pill and end to all your ills.

Does India buy it's military equipment from its defence budget?

Military acquisition mostly use long term loan but it is still related directly to defense budget as the defense budget that will likely be use for certain down payment (like the case of Indonesia) and to pay the loan (both principal and the interest rate every year)

Interesting.

Pakistan's defence acquirements are not part of the $10 billion defence budget and it's the same for the pensions for the retired service personnel.

:LOL::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::LOL:

That's some seriously funny $hit. Send me whatever your smoking

Funny? You clowns are hyphentaing India with Pakistan everyday on this forum, every second Indian news report is about Pakistan and your FM travels around the globe talking about Pakistan.

You are also posting laughing emojos on a Pakistani forum. It is all really rather tragic....

Again, for its size and economy, India did far better than expected. Do not forget that Pakistan was ahead in development from the 1960s to the 1980s compared to India, but the reversal came in the late 1990s. If you look at the sectoral economic composition makeup of the three countries, Pakistan and India align more than India and China. Hence, the comparison is very valid in this case; the societal makeup is similar.

China has a different sectoral economic makeup, but remember that it has had direct funding from the West since the 1970s. It is a one-party rule with a target to achieve. It had the bureaucratic stability that neither Pakistan nor India had. The West opened its educational institutes to the Chinese, and many educated Chinese returned to build their nation. Compared to the former two countries, China focused more on industry and services. But even before that, it had Soviet Union inputs that allowed China to lay the foundations.

---

The Indian economy is making inroads into pharmaceuticals, services, and manufacturing. It will take time for it to adjust to the market away from a heavy agricultural base economy from 17% of GDP down to 5-7% and increasing the other sectors' contribution to the economy. It's doing it, but it takes time to build the required chain.

---

Your middle paragraph can be reflected on Pakistan, almost mirror-like, by using its own characters. While we do not have a strong caste-based system, there are biases that affect Pakistan just as equally. I've seen places that resemble slums in Pakistan, and you can see the wealth disparity between the two.

The poverty levels in India are still GIGANTIC. Indian economic growth hasn't benefitted Indian poverty reduction as it should have. That is partly because India is a caste based society. Every country has

If Pakistan has ten slums. India has at least a thousand. That comes with size and population. India is wildly overpopulated and disorganised. China is in a different league when it comes to organising. Not even a contest.

Full onslaught by Trump administration against India.

Lol. You say we picked the loosing side while looking at economic conditions of India and Pakistan today? Tch..tch..

Your 'socialism' has set you back. Yes, you are far ahead of Pakistan in economy but you still punch way below your potentials. Ask @SoulSpokesman about your 'socialism' up to 1990. And you picked the losing side during the Cold War while Pakistan gained immensely by siding with the Americans.
Anyway, this is not the right thread for that discussion. Plus, I don't like repeating myself too much in general in this forum.

India hasn’t given the country’s oil refiners instructions to stop buying Russian oil, according to people familiar, as officials grapple with meeting energy needs and maintaining ties with Moscow without further angering US President Donald Trump.

No decision has been taken as yet on stopping imports from Russia, the people said, asking not to be named due to the sensitivity of the matter. Both state-run or private refiners are allowed to buy from their preferred sources, and crude purchases remain a commercial decision made by them, several of the people said.

Trump blasted India on Wednesday for continuing to purchase most of its military equipment and energy from Russia. The US leader imposed a surprise 25% tariff on India and threatened an additional penalty for its close ties with Moscow. Two days later, Trump told reporters he “heard” India would no longer be buying oil from Russia, calling it “a good step.”

India has maintained its energy purchases are driven by market forces and price. Last week, refiners were told to come up with plans for buying non-Russian crude, people familiar said to Bloomberg. The government asked state-owned processors to prepare an outline of where alternate barrels can be sourced and at what volume if Russian flows get stopped, they said. One of the people said the instruction amounted to scenario planning in case Russian crude were to become unavailable.

It is either QUAD or BRICS. It is either the West or Global South.
Donald Trump demands full loyalty from India.
You cannot get away with duplicity anymore.
the Americans are going to demand full support. That time has come buddy.

If it's either Brics or QUAD. It's BRICS. The QUAD needs India more than India needs the QUAD. More over we are a Junior partner in that group.

My personal preference is to stand with the Global South. The west can decide.

India will not show any loyalty to others. Neither there was duplicity before nor now.
Hope Americans realize that.

According to Palki, India is complying with. So it’s only China that will buy. China is sanctioning proof as they can stop shipments of magnets. That’s their card. Modi has no cards, just like Zelensky.
India was actually processing the Russian crude and exporting to Europe.
No point buying large quantities if Europe isn't willing to buy from India.

India buying from Russia is a necessity, not a choice. Otherwise the prices will spiral out of control.

Trump is throwing tantrums because Canada, China and India are pushing back against his trade based bullying. TACO.
It's only a matter of time before other countries start doing the same.
