Pakistan must upgrade existing F-16 in our fleet to Block 72. We spent lot of money on them and they could be museum display in a decade. Iraq was also trying selling its F-16 to Pakistan now we can move ahead with that if it is still feasible. The contract for Turkish ATAK T129 helicopter with US LHTEC CTS800-4A turboshaft engines could also be revived.
I have always assumed that F-16s would serve till 2040 or if continuous support is secured then perhaps till 2050. However, some of the "China guys" that have reached the influential positions in PAF are of the opinion that when the time comes the F-16s should go. Interestingly few of them are the ones that have experience in flying both F-16s and JF-17s. Then there are those who find American weapons politically inhibiting. Based on their opinions I am no longer clear on the future of F-16s in PAF. But I would say this, Block 72 would be too enticing not to be given consideration. Attack helicopters - T129 and Zulus - is purely army thing. They definitely need these and if the opportunity arises they should avail it.
