Indian security and intelligence agencies are closely monitoring a fresh round of military engagement between Bangladesh and Pakistan, amid concerns that Dhaka’s deepening defence cooperation with Islamabad and Beijing could alter regional security dynamics.

On August 16, a ten-member team of senior Bangladeshi Army officers, led by Quarter Master General Lieutenant General Faizur Rahman, departed for Islamabad. The delegation includes Brigadier General Kazi ASM Shahriar Pervez, Brigadier General Mohammad Abdul Aziz, and several other senior officers.
Documents indicate that the visit was arranged at the invitation of the Pakistan High Commission’s Defence Wing in Dhaka on August 8. The team is scheduled to return on August 24.

Indian intelligence sources say the timing of the visit is particularly significant, coming just days before Bangladesh Army chief General Waker-uz-Zaman travels to Beijing from August 22 to 25 at the initiative of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA).

Pattern of growing defence engagements
This is not the first high-level interaction between the two armies this year. In January, a Bangladeshi delegation led by Lt Gen Kamrul Hassan met Pakistan Army chief General Asim Munir in Islamabad. Soon after, a three-member Pakistan ISI team headed by a Major General visited Dhaka.

Indian agencies believe the August 16 visit marks a continuation of this trend, with both sides aiming to push defence ties to what officials describe as “new heights.”
The Bangladeshi officers are scheduled to tour Pakistan Army’s ordnance factories and sensitive establishments where air defence systems, UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles), and missile systems are developed and stockpiled. They will also visit facilities specialising in the maintenance and overhaul of MI-series helicopters.

The stated objectives include gaining first-hand experience of advanced defence technologies, evaluating UAV systems for long-range tactical missions, and exploring joint innovations. Sources say discussions may also include technology exchange that could provide “strategic heft” to Bangladesh’s armed forces.

India’s concerns over strategic shifts
Indian security officials are concerned that the rapid expansion of Bangladesh’s defence cooperation with Pakistan—coupled with growing military ties with China and Turkey—could lead to a strategic realignment in the neighbourhood.

“The developments warrant close scrutiny. Bangladesh’s outreach to Pakistan’s military-industrial complex, especially in areas like UAVs and missile systems, has direct security implications for India,” said a senior Indian intelligence officer.

Officials also note that these exchanges come at a sensitive time, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi scheduled to visit Kolkata on August 22 to inaugurate three metro services, just 100 km from the Bangladesh border. Security agencies have already been placed on the highest alert.

Interim regime driving military expansion
Since the Mohammad Yunus-led interim regime assumed office on August 8, 2024, Bangladesh’s armed forces have accelerated efforts to expand capabilities. The government has been actively pursuing defence cooperation not just with Pakistan and China, but also with Turkey and the United States.
For India, analysts say, the challenge lies in balancing diplomatic ties with Dhaka while ensuring that these new military linkages do not undermine New Delhi’s security calculus in the eastern theatre.

Good. If they're afraid, it means we're on the right track.
I wish they'd hurry the hell up and sign a deal with China, Pakistan for some JF-17s B3 and J-10Cs.
And as for the fact they're visiting facilities for maintenance of Mi-series helicopters, I hope this means not more Mi-17s but that they'll buy some dedicated attack helicopters like Mi-24s or Mi-28s. We can't keep using our Mi-17s as gunships for so long.

Another billion dollars export deal incoming for Pakistan!
First it was Azerbaijan then Sudan and now hopefully Bangladesh!!!
India is probably feeling like a jealous ex GF.

BD and Pakistan have all the right and reasons in the world to have closer ties. If it were not for India playing the spoiler, this alignment would have come a long time ago.
India's policy of "divide and retain influence" has run aground.
Who will explain to that donkey Modi and his army of sheeple that talking peace and normalizing with Pakistan is a net gain for the region and India.
All these Indian insecurities will fall by the wayside if his extremist, Hindu fundamentalist mindset gets a reset. I know this is an impossibility but worth calling out that Pakistan has always been willing to negotiate. Modi's dead-end policy of "talks and terror cannot go together" (while criminally and hypocritically funding terrorism against Pakistan) has no takers around the globe any longer.

Not to mention abusive. She still sends threatening phone calls once in a while.

Its not just Modi. He just might be the current face of Indian nationalists, but Congress is the same. India always have been a terrible neighbour. Its just that during the Modi era, they became more bare-faced and hyper.

... I wish they'd hurry the hell up and sign a deal with China, Pakistan for some JF-17s B3 and J-10Cs. ...
An Interim Government that only has few months left in office can't sign any major deals but the military and the intelligentsia can certainly explore, review, plan and get the ball rolling.

I am glad that a nation of 170 million people has finally realised that outsourcing their national security to a racist Hindu Extremist India for such a long time was a very bad idea.

Not finally? We always knew that but couldn't do anything thanks to Awami League and Hasina's tight control.
And yeah, I guess you're right, but that just makes me more mad that the BNP retards didn't allow the IG a few more years in power. Seeing thr BNP rhetoric these days, I have a suspicion they'll spoil our relations with India and perhaps start re-establishing relations with India.

No major defence deal will happen until a democratic govt is in place.

BNP is likely to be the next govt and they used to be friendly with Pakistan in the past under Khaleda Zia's leadership. However, lately there has been an intrusion of pro India leaders in BNP's top hierarchy. So it needs to be seen if the relationship with Pakistan continues to improve or not after the election.

India has no influence actually. Any influence it gets is due to the large volume of trade it can generate because it is literally a numbers game with the largest mentally retarded population on earth.

May 7-10 events showcased to the world that India can't do shit to a 6 times smaller nation, what influence will it do to anyone else?

I mean, it has the distinction of being enemy of two of nuclear armed nations.

Pakistan enjoys better positioning in the region and influence, not to mention the Central Asia. Bangladesh would be smart to build a relationship with Pakistan because it would allow it to benefit from China as well.

Pakistan military, is the most up to date in warfare, battle hardened, and has the most experience at this point. The short India-Pakistan war saw the top line tech, tactics and weapons work like they teach in warfare schools these days as "theory". Pakistan military used those same tactics in practicality. These tactics aren't deployed in Russia or Israel-Iran war. The US military has many times said that they are working on the network integration like the one we showed in combat.

So many nations should now seek our Pakistan military's consulting services in "how to create the best functional military". We can design military doctrines for other nations. Bangladesh is one.

Sadly, poor Indians are always on alert. I don't even know if they sleep. 2025 has brought in terrible luck and significant changes for India. From East to West, it's embarrassment, bad reputation and insults for India.

May be it should realize the gas in the balloon is out and that the world knows its not that "big power" it was trying to project itself to be. Indian bubble myth's created by Bollywood movies have been burst globally.

What equipment BD is looking for?

They are likely looking to get some collaboration on UAV tech as BAF is developing indigenous capabilities demonstrated through KX-2 UAV prototyping and testing.

Fatah-2 has a chance for army's Type-A MLRS procurement among Turkish and Chinese options.

India is probably feeling like a jealous ex GF.

We don't have this kind of $$.

Realistically any billion $ deal could only happen with PRC given they provide LoC.

@LeonBlack08

However, lately there has been an intrusion of pro India leaders in BNP's top hierarchy.

It is called realism, Leon. BNP is the govt in waiting- it knows that friendly relationship with IND is required for BD's economic growth, not PAK.
