Iranian Navy | News and Discussions

Sad state of affairs for Iranian Naval forces (both IRGCN and IRIN).

No sign of further Submarine development. Fateh class inductions has been slowed.

No sign of supersonic AShCM. Eghtedar was shown but no sign of deployment. They are still firing old Noors and Ghaders for cameras.

No sign of Hypersonic/Near Hypersonic AShBM.

Entire Surface fleet is effectively naked from above due to lack of IRIAF cover.

Tell me about it. Imagine losing Shahid Soleimani before it even sees any action.

I thought a ballistic missile sub was under development. A submarine able to launch ballistic missiles or cruise missiles would be of immense value.

As surprising as it may sound, both Iranian navies were untouched in the war. Some people on twitter have a theory which I agree to as well. You see IRGCAF's strike at Haifa's Bazan Oil Refinery came just after Israeli attack at South Pars. After that both sides just did not hit eachother oil n gas infrastructure. So there is a possibility that IRIN and IRGCN were not touched by Israel out of fear of IRGCAF's attack at Israeli naval infrastructure which is critical for them to have (1) As western most early warning Search n track system for incoming attack (2) Keep dominance over Egyptian and Turkish navies.

2nd and 3rd Fateh were supposed to be added. 2nd was under sea trials last I know. Iran has not shown even a hint of SLBM capability, SLCM capability exist though but short ranged, nothing strategic.

If true, at least it is some hopeful news.

Thats too bad. Even North Korea has SSBNs, I am sure they are willing to help Iran develop one.

Current system will make sure Iran never has anything strategic in its arsenal, despite capability. Nukes, ICBM, Military Satellites, SSBNs. They are supported by East and West both for this reason. Let alone SSBNs, they wont even put longer ranged AShBM or just land strike BM like Fattah on ships. They have removed Iran from table of global strategic affairs. One less (historically dangerous) player, the better for everyone.

From a video posted on 30 September 2025, starting at minute 16:26, showing an official visit by military authorities to the Iranian naval base, it can be seen that the Sahand 74 has completed repair and modification work.
I have highlighted some details in a screenshot.
Green arrow: they have placed an additional missile container in a horizontal position towards the stern of the ship, probably another one is also on the other side.
Orange arrow: they seem to resemble the liftable launchers for anti-aircraft missiles that were previously located at the bow.
Red arrows: it appears that in addition to the large funnel visible in the foreground, two other structures have been added that resemble the two engine funnels installed on the Deylaman 78 p, but perhaps on the Sahand these are not funnels and could serve other purposes.

What do you think?

Iranian Ships' Transponders on Display: A Show of Strength Against Sanctions

For the first time in seven years, Iranian tankers and commercial ships have turned on their AIS transponders, a measure that was previously disabled in an attempt to evade sanctions. - This move is in response to the implementation of the trigger mechanism and the return of UN sanctions and the possibility of international inspections of Iranian commercial ships. - Iran appears to have challenged the opposing sides with a firm message, including a warning from the Revolutionary Guards that it will respond “coordinated and proportionately” to any intervention. This approach, while demonstrating its power and testing the West’s will, has the potential to escalate tensions in sensitive waterways such as the Strait of Hormuz. - This move is, firstly, a clear show of strength and confidence, showing that Iran is no longer willing to hide and is ready to confront any provocative action. Secondly, it could be an attempt to legitimize Iranian shipping in international waters, while behind the scenes, other creative ways to circumvent sanctions (such as exchanging goods and oil at sea) remain active. Thirdly, this action puts the international community, and especially Western powers, in a difficult position: do they take military action to enforce inspections, which could lead to a larger conflict, or do they ignore this Iranian action and allow this new game to continue? ⛵🔥

The multi-role vessel Kurdistan 442 was presented, alongside which should be the Makran 441

They look great. While I can understand why they have been equipped with a helipad, I cannot understand the heavy weaponry loaded in Kurdistan. Anyway even belng different ships some standarization can be seen, which is good and a good trend. Thanks for sharing.

If they are on board, the captain has one more option and two alternatives in case of need: to use them or not to use them.
If, on the other hand, you do not have them on board, you have no choice and no alternatives.
Therefore, I personally would like to have them on board.

Funny thing is I don’t know why they haven’t tried to make these ships equipped with anti aircraft systems seems logical if these ships are used mainly as support to actually be able to protect ships that are meant for offensive capabilities while being able to protect these ships they’re big enough

At the moment, apart from one photo, they are all of poor quality, so it is difficult to assess what other type of weaponry has been installed.

I am curious about what might be contained in the area I have circled in red, including its underlying structure.

Well the conflict with Israel and America has shown that they need a large force from anti craft spread out on land and sea and their air which need 24/7 awac support on multiple fronts I’m surprised they haven’t tried to at least convert their simorgh aircraft to become an awac like e 2 Hawkeye it could be deployed over the sea and land
