Chinese Aircraft Carriers - Liaoning, Shandong, Fujian and the future

Pakistan will also benefit greatly when CPEC is completed as all the industrial zones along the route will be developed too, that is if Pakistan will be able to attract lots foreign investments and industries from China and other countries as originally planned. CPEC is an alternate trade route for China to the Malacca strait route.

Yes, benefits are for both nations. But it's strategic importance is far more for the Chinese national security than Pakistanis. For us, it will generate revenue. For the Chinese, it's a lifeline for their energy, fuel and trade security.

But, by the going of CPEC now, when the project is completed, China may have already switched to green or renewable energy sources nearly totally, China's dependence of oil and gas supplies from the Gulf and Africa will become largely insignificant. But, CPEC is still an useful alternate shorter trade route from western China to Europe, Mideast and Africa.

This is the key, IF Pakistan reforms to benefit from CPEC. No one is going to hand the benefits on a plate. It has to be worked for. Karachi has to be made economically competitive in comparison to other ports with industrial hinterlands in the region. Having the Central Asia railway end at Karachi is a great starting point, but no guarantee.

We have to integrate ourselves in everyone’s supply chains (outside of India and Israel) to benefit from opportunities this opens up. Dubai has no hinterland. Our link to Central Asia would be our link. Being outside of the Persian gulf and hosting a massive work force at a competitive labor cost gives us a starting point, but if we can get electricity costs competitive and source competitively priced Gas, our industries could pickup if Karachi is given its due space to develop.

China to Commission New Aircraft Carrier Fujian on Anti-Japanese Victory Day

Fujian's commissioning signals a new chapter in China's naval history and defense strategy.

A Chinese state media outlet indicated that the commissioning of the new aircraft carrier "Fujian" is imminent. It specifically referenced the history of Japanese warships invading its territory during the China-Japan War 88 years ago, likening the arrival of the Fujian to "revenge." It seems they intend to showcase military pride by commissioning the Fujian on the 3rd of next month, coinciding with the anniversary of the victory in the Anti-Japanese War (Victory Day).

◇"The same sea, where 88 years ago it was a Japanese warship, now it is the Fujian"

According to the Hong Kong South China Morning Post (SCMP), China Central Television (CCTV) released footage related to the Fujian on the 23rd through its military channel. The video deliberately contrasts the Fujian with the Japanese Imperial Navy flagship "Izumo," which sailed in the same waters 88 years ago.

The video states, "In August 2025, the first catapult-type aircraft carrier Fujian, which China designed and built completely independently, is preparing for commissioning. 88 years ago, the Japanese invading fleet flagship Izumo roamed these very waters." A naval history expert appearing in the video explained, "The port of the Izumo targeted downtown Shanghai," adding, "This warship was purchased with the indemnities from the Treaty of Shimonoseki (after the First Sino-Japanese War) and symbolizes Japanese invasion."

SCMP analyzed that the timing of the video's release before the Victory Day parade on the 3rd suggests that the Fujian could be commissioned as early as the day of Victory Day. On Chinese social media, the 3rd of September (Victory Day) and the date of the Manchurian Incident (September 18) are mentioned as likely commissioning dates.

The Fujian, launched in June 2022, has a displacement of 80,000 tons, making it the largest warship in Asia. The main difference from existing carriers, Liaoning and Shandong, is the method of aircraft launch. Unlike previous carriers that used ski jumps, the Fujian adopted an "electromagnetic catapult" (launcher).

The electromagnetic catapult is a technology applied only to the latest U.S. carriers. It can launch heavier aircraft than the ski-jump method and has shorter launch intervals, making it a key technology dramatically enhancing carrier combat capability. If the Fujian is commissioned, China will become the only country operating an electromagnetic catapult carrier, excluding the United States. The Fujian is expected to carry various aircraft, including stealth fighters, early warning aircraft, and electronic warfare aircraft.

Since its first voyage in May last year, the Fujian has completed a total of 8 sea trials over 117 days. This is a longer period than Liaoning (109 days) and Shandong (84 days), indicating it has a more complex system and a higher level of technical completeness.

◇Victory Day parade D-10..."The equipment is for combat"

On the 3rd of next month, China will hold a large-scale military parade in Tiananmen Square in Beijing in celebration of Victory Day. They have already completed three comprehensive training sessions, and a joint military band of over 1,000 members, the largest in history, will be mobilized.

A commander of a tank unit participating in the parade stated in a CCTV interview, "The equipment for the parade was not made for display but for fighting," and noted, "From the training ground to the parade site, if ordered, we can go directly from the parade site to the battlefield."

Based on this I think?

This sentence should soon be read as "Pakistan HAD trouble finding money for CPEC".

This statement is factually wrong. CPEC is a Chinese initiative to avoid Indian route (enemy territory) and then to the Indo-Pacific and then to South China sea. Strait of Malaca is a choke point with Indian, Australian and American navies and that will stop the Chinese trade entirely. The other route is above Russia, still all ice / glassier filled and limited operations only for 2 months a year.

Through Gawader, Chinese trade can resume in a war time, cuts distance by literally near a month as Chinese ships won't have to go through the ENTIRE India, then Sri Lank and back into Strait of Malaca and then into the Indo-Pacific to SCS.

So CPEC truly benefits the Chinese national security. It gives us a few billions in transit fees but when it will become fully operational. Both nations get benefit out of it. But its much more significant for the Chinese national security than it is for Pakistan.

Secondly, the 2018-2020's Pakistan is different then today and it will be vastly different starting 2028 economically as our Rare Earth Minerals and Oil and Gas sales will start by then taking us to financial independence in the future.

That trillion dollar economy isn't too far. Just wait until 2035.
That is not true. The Karakoram highway is closed for 2 months of the year, and Oil cannot pass through it since it is prohibitively expensive to transfer oil through a pipeline in the steep mountains.

Without Chinese capital and expertise to build the support system for ports like bunkering, refinery, railways, etc, the utility of the ports is zero!

Sofar, nothing gets done because Pakistan cannot secure the safety of Chinese personnel and refuses Chinese requests to provide protection (read military) for their own personnel

The question is, one more (perhaps final) sea trial or relocation to the new home port and commissioning there?
Chinese military enthusiasts speculate:
This time, it may be heading to a naval port for a formal commissioning ceremony.

Unlikely. No pictures of ceremonial decoration circulating around yet and there are fewer than 2 days left.

Exactly my hope and theory too ... she's leaving for her home port and commissioning there

But if she only leaves and will be commissioned at her home-port, then no ceremony is need at Shanghai!

That would be great. The timing would be to make it on the National Day (10/1). This year, the Mid-Autumn Moon Festival is also close by (10/6). This Festival is a festival of family unification. Well, consider the mainland and Taiwan are of the same family. ;)

Our guess is September 18th.
If this is indeed the date, then the signal China is sending is very strong.
