HAL LCA Tejas: Updates, News & Discussions

Its ironic for sure. Parliamentary committee wanted to see the progress of the project so they have to display whichever airframes were ready.
So why they didn't put only those "frames" which were "ready"?
Frames without engines and frames without huds cannot be called ready.
Isn't it "self mocking"?

I don't know what were the parameters. May be they want to highlight the fact of non availability not engines infront of committe. I am not sure about HUDs..

Govt will get back around 11,600 Cr out of 63,000 Cr in GST alone. ( If we calculate at the flat rate of 18%).
HAL paid approximately ₹1,915.85 crore in dividends to the Government of India for the financial year 2024-25.
GST on aircrafts & their parts is only 5% in India (HSN 8802-8803). This amounts to only INR 3,150 Cr.

It would be appreciated it if you could ensure any details about the jet's cost come from official sources. Speculative estimates might lead to... interesting conversations. Best to stick with verified numbers.

Regards.

8 Mk1 standard trainers and 10 Mk1A standard trainers were ordered

Given 8 Mk 1 trainers have already been manufactured and are flying and this particular aircraft has a tail number LT 5209 it only makes sense to assume this is a Mk1A trainer,

This is why I treat every single "positive" post about Tejas with scepticism, as 9 out of 10 times it is BS. No follow on contract has been signed, it has been "cleared" for the 9th time....

"We'll do the contract signing next month. I have made it clear to HAL (Hindustan Aeronautics Limited), that we will sign the contract only after they deliver at least 2 completed weapons, you know complete package from the previous order,” Singh said at the NDTV Defence Summit."

Started in 1986, India's jet engine program has dragged on for decades without a usable result

Seriously bro, 73mil$ a pop is a scam. I am not saying this because I am Chinese. Government gets back in terms of GST. WTF logic is this. LOLOL. At this point just admit it is an overpriced mediocre plane.

I accept that it is overpriced and very very late. Let each and every member on this forum also accept this.

What difference would it make?

Before the 2000s, air forces were often the first line of action in war. But with modern air defence systems becoming far more advanced, that’s no longer the case. Today, fighter jets can only achieve air dominance after enemy defences are first degraded or broken—using standoff weapons, drones, or missile strikes but seems, Pakistan is not prepared for it
with modern atgm's, tanks have become useless.

with drones, infantry has become useless.

with ashm's, ships have become useless

with submarines, ships have become useless

with torpedos, submarines have become useless.

and so on, and so forth.

Pak produces thousands of boosted REK's per year.

Its pretty hard to say whats a scam and what isnt when you are not privvy to the ins and outs of the deal.

What does this $73m include?

Im assuming that IAF has to go via HAL for procurements of weapons and other systems too which balloons the cost?
