Very interesting! I cannot escape thinking about this story of India and our story of the USA. Our Constitution's 1st Amendment creates a huge complexity for we majority Christians. Do we truly, truly support "freedom of (from) religion" or don't we? We are experimenting. The experiment creates lot's of angst. So far, not too much violence...

One of our Founding Fathers once said,

The brotherhood of Islam is not the universal brotherhood of man. It is brotherhood of Muslims for Muslims only. There is a fraternity, but its benefit is confined to those within that corporation.

The same is true for Christians.

Just ask the Native Americans for starters.

No direct discussions on religion or religious policy will end up well.

I guess Hindu civilization doesn't even offer the pretense of universal brotherhood, everyone has their assigned level of dignity, that's just fact right?

He decided to have a pop at two, for no apparent reason.

You are Right. "Hindu civilization" do not recognize "universal brotherhood".

"universal brotherhood" is a very narrow restrictive idea of Men for Men.

Hindus have "Vasudev Kutumbakam", the universe as a Family of uneven and unequal living and Non Living forms.

Thank you for your direct response.

We as humans all should aspire to something higher than ourselves, I feel much more uplifted by aspiring to the ideal that we all deserve equal dignity, but each to their own.

True.
Reacting doesn't help, it extends the conversation even further away.

For a Hindu, the "identity/idea of the self" itself is not real. Its a delusion, just a collection of earth and memory.

Only the self is real. There is nothing higher than ourselves. That is the fundamental Hindu understanding.

Sounds stupid if you don't get it. Its quite simple if you get it.

Could we redirect our attention here to the topic of Parsis and their dance with Hindutva please.

Muslims and Americans or in fact the Chinese or the British or the Mughals are not really of prime interest here.

Thank you for your attention and consideration gents.

This is my thread, and its been doing great, in spite of regular attempts to bait and derail. Civil and intellectual for the large part.

I've gotten the Opium bit nicely addressed too (I got banned on the old forum while having this discussion with @Rivino and got it by the scruff of its neck later with soft sanghis at the Strategic Forum, so I did the honors here with him today).

Cheers, Doc

I think I get it.... a bit. I just can't relate with any lived experience, it's all too theoretical for me, I can only understand in counter comparison to what I do know, it might sound more hostile than intended.

If you think we are non entities, then you're more stoned than you look in your Jesus of Nazareth photo.

But that's okay. Your prerogative.

Cheers, Doc
