Once just a rumor, China’s HQ-29 missile defense system has finally surfaced, believed to be capable of intercepting ballistic missiles at high altitudes and potentially targeting satellites in low Earth orbit.

Launch vehicles carrying the new weapon were spotted during rehearsals for an upcoming military parade, confirming months of speculation sparked by leaked images and online analysis.

Mounted on a six-axle transporter with twin canisters nearly 1.5 meters (4.9 feet) in diameter, the HQ-29 features a rare dual-missile loadout that Chinese media has dubbed a “double-barreled satellite hunter.”

China prepares to show off 'game-changing' missile during military parade

China is set to reveal an unprecedented variant of the Dong Feng-26 ballistic missile at a significant military parade scheduled for next month.

The devastating weapon, nicknamed the 'Guam Killer' due to its capability to strike the strategic American territory, emerges during a period of escalating global tensions.

Military observers detected the intermediate-range missile during practice sessions for the ceremony that will dominate Beijing's Tiananmen Square on September 3.

The event will simultaneously commemorate the 80th anniversary of World War II's conclusion, a devastating conflict that claimed between 15 and 20 million Chinese lives, including both civilians and service members.

The initial DF-26, created by the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, reportedly boasts a striking distance exceeding 5,000km, equivalent to roughly 3,100 miles.

Intelligence suggests the new model may possess precise nuclear strike capabilities and can target both land-based and maritime objectives.

Defense sources indicate the DF-26D features active radar guidance systems, multi-spectral detection equipment, and sophisticated countermeasures designed to penetrate Western missile defense networks, presenting troubling implications for the Pentagon's planned Golden Dome initiative, reports the Express.

South Korean-based Military Watch Magazine reported on Tuesday: "Although many of the weapons systems recently unveiled have seen their service entries long anticipated, the development of a new DF-26D variant was not widely predicted and represents a highly unwelcome development for US and broader Western Bloc interests."

In alarming developments for the US and its allies, Malaysian publication Defence Security Asia has labeled the 'Guam Killer' missile as "a dramatic escalation in the Indo-Pacific arms race, threatening US bases, aircraft carriers, and regional security stability."

The DF-28D missile is described as "not just an incremental upgrade but a potentially game-changing weapon tailored to threaten US aircraft carriers, naval task forces, and bases as far away as Guam".

Guam, seen as a prime target for Beijing in the event of conflict with the United States, is the nearest US territory to the contentious South China Sea.

The island serves as a pivotal military hub, housing Andersen Air Force Base, Naval Base Guam, and Camp Blaz—a massive Marine Corps base still under construction yet considered operational.

Any estimate of the life the HQ-29? In the US, people compare on a performance level to the SM-6; hypersonic glider interceptor.

Surprised to see Kim attending though, NK under this man has really step up the game compared with his father.
The South Koreans are also suppose to be attending. I think it has more to do with the mutual hatred for what Japan did to these peoples, than mutual bonhomie.
