it is weird that these jets had no role

I don't expect them to challenge Israeli jets (although they could have done that, some of the Israeli jets were not even carrying AAMs), but they can at least hunt drones and interfere with Israeli attacks

great you hid the jets in an underground base and preserved them. but for what? to preserve them in the next war too? better to use and lose half of them while disturbing the enemy's plans than to not use them at all

They are preserved from utter destruction. We still need some kind of airforce against the likes of Taliban.

The moment they take off they will get tracked by US-Israeli radars and shot down from a distance. These jets are basically only for scaring militias.

no one will sell us anything , especially fighter jets , USNC sanction are back and both Russia and China are part of USNC so they won't shoot bullet on their own knee by weakening the organization ...

Just face the reality ...

in best case we just can hope for completing Kowsar project to at least be comparable with JF17 B2 with secret foreign helps so at least our sky won't be freeway for our enemies drones

How many Kowsar have actually been built?

5. Project is done and dusted due to costs of 25-30 Million USD per one AT or Light CAP fighter. Had ~150 been built at right time between 2005-2015 (Project started in 2002), they could have been highly useful in dealing with CAS against local terrorists or intercepting UCAVS, ALCMs and SOWs etc but it was a mal-planned project from the beginning, overloading an F-5F with whatever useless/useful stuff SAIRAN could build. Price went high and nothing happened since 2018.

As for Karrar, I am surprised I have heard zero about them used in the 12 Day War.

My theory, only few Karrars with datalink were built or may be just one had datalink as a prototype (We saw one). Without real time datalinking from a Tracking radar, airborne or ground, Karrar with its missile is useless. With proper EW, real time double duplex Search n Track datalinking (it can send and recieve target info), it could have been use ful against Drones, SOWs, ALCMs. Imagine small interception party of 5-6 interceptors flying with some 15-20 Karrars. But IRI does not operate like this.

See this is not how Airpower is projected. Iran needs layers and layers of Airsuperiority fighter jets (SU-35S, J-16, SU-30SM class) to operate at periphery of Iranian borders with longest possible BVRs and mean HOBS WVR to thwart enemy from distance.

Best platform for chasing intruding drones is Russian solution. They use Ka-52 helicopters to detect and down suicide drones. Despite having a large fleet of homemade helicopters even Russians suffer from losses esp in oil refinery sector.

Russia is barely providing gasoline for domestic use, due to intense drone attacks on its refineries.

Iran can't be stronger than Russia hence receiving blow during war is a common phenomenon.

F5 and our kobras don't have radar for this of job
Kowsar and our kobra deriviate helicopter have the radar and infrared equipment for vsuch duty.
But for reason unknown to me they remained in prototype phase

That's wierd. Maybe budget constraints? Why wouldn't it be equipped on Toofan 2s.
