H-1B visas must end’: Wife of US citizen shares plight of landing IT jobs

It's like you don't even know what I just wrote. What straight comparison do you want. It must be hard for you to accept Indian engineers and scientists can be smarter in a lot of fields. But I don't know what you expect me to say other than show the data. You can look at the number of patents filed by these "Indians" in the US. Why do you want to go with feeelz instead of readily available data?
This is a valid point.

I am simply presenting to you the American perception, on the workforce comparison

And I think you have answered the question, that you do believe they are filling in a skills gap, to what extent I don't know

I believe H1B visas should be limited to niche technologies only. L1 and B1 visas should also be restricted to a certain number in the tech sector. Indian workers and companies have exploited these facilities, affecting US tech workers. There should be a controlled ban on these visa types for the IT industry for the next 10 years. The biggest impact will be workers from India but so be it.

But your points tend more towards race. Which got nothing much to do with this.

Yeah the US is (or was) a great talent magnet. In some cases they overdo it which deprive the countries of their talented people. Those who migrate for opportunities will find other countries to migrate to. The US today, may get replaced by someone else, or maybe the Americans themselves purge the idea of another Trump.

@studsmart

You are of course overlooking one possibilty. The US corps which are the end user of Indian IT employees may choose to export their work wholesale, along with the employees back to India- there is a word for it- Bangalored.

Regards

It's relevant to the maga crowd.

About 10 years ago the it industry was generally unsexy, considered a place for nerds to stare at code all day

The it industry is now tech, and tech is attracting many people, especially young graduates.

Over the last 20 years, the once marginal voices disgruntled with Indian domination in it are now coalescing and being a given a platform

Graduates who have paid for expensive education will moan about lack of opportunity, so will their parents

Therefore, in the maga world, the real framing will be why are corporates selling Americans out, and how good are these guys anyway?

I say all of the above without a value judgment, just a framing

Correct. The young graduates will ask these questions for sure. The corporates will do what is in their best interest.

Well done sir.

Let's see.

Maybe just UK which ain't in Europe but has struck a deal with India. European language barriers have so far shielded them from this modern trade.

As pressure mounts on manufacturers and a declining population coupled with failure of middle Eastern diaspora in Europe, some might be willing to deal with Indians.
Importing Indian engineers or Indian skilled laborers is not a long term solution for anyone here

Majority of H-1B holders are very talented, skilled, and almost everyone have master’s degree, which makes them attractive to companies.

However, I believe the issue is not with H-1B itself, but with the H-4 visa, which allows the spouses of H-1B holders to work (thanks to Obama). So, technically, Americans are losing two jobs(search your own to find out how may H4's are working).

There’s no way an H-1B holder can afford a million or half-million-dollar home, along with car payments and utility bills (not even counting groceries), unless there are two incomes.

Thanks,

@ihussain

Well, the question then arises is why is it easy for the H4 spouses to find a job in America?

Regards

The question is, how come an H4 secure another job within just two weeks of being let go, while U.S. citizens have been searching for jobs for months/years??

You tell us. You stay in US, not me. Why do US employers prefer to employ overseas H4 spouses and not native white and colored American citizens?

I believe, the answer is hidden somewhere in the very first post of this thread. Job that down for you?

whether you like it or not some Indian/Chinese immigrants are the reason USA has Microsoft, Google, Meta, Nvidia of the world. Of course every country wants to have the Microsoft, Google, Meta, Nvidia of the world.

Who wants a bunch of unskilled dudes sitting in their country ?
Does not make one iota of difference whether we on pdf "like it or not".

Why do you insist on directing your appeals to us lowly simpletons?

What matters is whether US citizenry, represented by their President, and in the context of Modi having now publicly made his choice of attempting to lather up China in lieu of long established western relationships , will continue to tolerate the special favours meted out towards India at the expense of other foreign nationals.
